Built in 1924. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The first public high school in Maryland built specifically for Black students — and for generations, the only secondary school in the region open to Black students.
ISI Demolition was selected by Dustin Construction to perform interior demolition for the $117 million renovation that will give Frederick Douglass High School a future worthy of that history.
The scope: multi-floor interior gut, basement mechanical removal in low-clearance conditions, structural steel cutting in the historic auditorium from aerial work platforms, chimney demolition at height, and selective razing of non-historic additions — all while protecting the Late Gothic Revival exterior that has defined this building for a century.
