The transmission project team recently went door to door canvassing businesses located along and near the project route in Queens, the Bronx, Westchester, and Suffolk County. The team shared information about the project, upcoming construction, and invited business owners to complete a short survey. The survey is designed to gather information and feedback that can aid in construction planning and sequencing to minimize temporary impacts.

The transmission project will be built in limited segments with a phased approach along the project route. While construction is expected to take place for 4 years across the 90-miles, work will move from area to area—so we won’t be in any one community for the entire duration.

The project team remains committed to keeping our neighbors along the route informed. Summer heat waves and severe thunderstorms put pressure on an already stressed grid. Combined with growing demand, New York State’s aging power grid cannot keep pace. In its newly issued 2026 Report, NYS grid operator, NYISO, warns of our power grid’s ability to meet peak demand this summer, stating that “…the electric system is operating with the narrowest reliability margins in recent years….. the system is becoming more sensitive to uncertainty.” Projects like will strengthen grid resiliency and reliability. While the project is currently in the permitting phase, the survey is designed to gather information and feedback about local business operations that can aid in construction planning and sequencing and maximize efficiencies.
