Why is the UN talking about changing the world map?

It turns out the world map most of us grew up with can make some countries look much bigger or smaller than they really are.

In this Cat’s Science Club activity, we use an orange to show exactly what happens when you try to turn a round world into a flat map.

It’s simple, surprising, and once you see it, you may never look at a world map the same way again.

Did you know we are getting a partial solar eclipse tomorrow? View it safely by making one of these solar viewers!

With the eclipse coming up, we wanted to share a really simple way for kids and families to safely watch what happens to the Sun!

We just made a short video showing how to build an easy pinhole Sun viewer using a cardboard tube and a few things you probably already have around the house.

The really cool part is that you are NOT looking at the Sun through the viewer. The tiny pinhole actually projects an image of the Sun inside the tube. During the eclipse, you'll be able to watch that little circle change shape as the Moon moves across the Sun.

It's a quick project and a great one to make with kids before the eclipse.
