1.) Consult an attorney and CPA to make sure the type of business you form will be best suited for your structure and operations. Your biggest expense in business are taxes and the tax codes are in place for you to take advantage of to promote economical stimulation.

2.) Build relationships early with suppliers/vendors and set up charge accounts. In the beginning stages especially, cash flow is king. You don’t want project schedules to be interrupted because of funds, it only delays you receiving your profit and money received over a longer period of time is less profit.

3.) Set up a business operating account (checking) and business profit account (savings). The moment you receive your draws, move your portion of the funds to the profit account. Funds allocated to paying subcontractors and suppliers need to be separated from your profit in order for you to have a clear understanding of your company’s profitability.
