Ferradermis - FIRST Robotics Team #6574 Ferradermis is the Whitewater High School FIRST Robotics Competition Team #6574. The students chose the team name to reflect the idea of “iron skin.”

Congrats to Margaret, Erison, Ace, Emilie, and Rae, all recognized this afternoon at Alverno College in Milwaukee as Wisconsin Winners of the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Aspirations in Computing Award! Emilie is heading into her junior year on the Programming Team, and the others have just finished their fourth year on Ferradermis and are heading off to UW-Whitewater, UW-Milwaukee, and Marquette to study cybersecurity, media arts and game design, computer engineering, and electrical engineering! It was great to see so many members of FIRST Wisconsin teams recognized as Winners, Honorable Mentions, and Rising Stars this afternoon!

Our evening started with a school board recognition of the team and ended with our first summer small group meeting at the newly remodeled Whitewater Public Library. CAD students were checking out the library meeting space tonight to see what will work best for the team over the summer while we are between workspaces at the high school.

Although construction has been underway for a couple of months, today was the official groundbreaking and beam signing ceremony for all of the work being done throughout the school district, including the new robotics space. Erison was able to represent the team to move a ceremonial shovel full of dirt.

What a fantastic day at the WUSD Robotics Booster Club STEAM Faire! Over 40 interactive booths with activities related to science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math along with a science demonstration stage, a LEGO building competition, an FFA petting zoo, and some really cool raffle baskets kept our visitors engaged for hours. Thank you to all of the businesses, organizations, and individuals who exhibited and made this a great day for Whitewater youth!

Check out all of these amazing raffle baskets available tomorrow at the STEAM Faire, including a 28" Blackstone Griddle generously donated by a supporter of the robotics program! There will be even more baskets arriving in the morning! There will be 2 drawings, and you must be present to win. Baskets on the red tables will be drawn at 12:00, and baskets on the blue tables will be drawn at 2:00. Tickets are $1 each, 6 for $5, and 15 for $10. Proceeds support robotics programs in grades 4-12 in Whitewater schools.

As we wrap up the season, we are also saying farewell to our workspace as we pack up in preparation for the move to a brand new space this fall. We will be without a space for the summer while the new addition is being built and our old space is being remodeled for the ag department.
