🎉 Congratulations to our 2026 SMART Classroom Grant recipients! 🎉

SMART Local 29 is proud to recognize this year’s SMART Classroom Grant winners and support the incredible work being done by educators throughout South Central Kansas.

This year, we were proud to award 20 local teachers with $529 grants to help purchase classroom supplies, materials, and resources that directly benefit their students.

Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients, and thank you to every educator who continues to invest their time, energy, and passion into our students.

Jeff has served Local 29 for more than 30 years in a variety of leadership roles, including Apprenticeship Instructor, Training Coordinator Trustee, Executive Board member, and President.

For the past nine years, Jeff has served as Local 29’s Business Manager and Financial Secretary-Treasurer.

Please join us in thanking Jeff for his many years of dedicated service to the members of Local 29 and wishing him the very best in retirement!

Sheet Metal Workers’ Local Union No. 29 is proud to announce the SMART Classroom Grant, created to support local educators as they prepare their classrooms for the upcoming school year.

This summer, we are excited to award twenty $529 classroom grants to local educators. These funds may be used to help purchase classroom supplies, instructional materials, organizational tools, or other resources that support student learning.

Applications are due by 12:00 p.m. on July 24, 2026.

Winners will be selected at our July 27, 2026 meeting and contacted no later than 3:00 p.m. on July 31, 2026.

At Local 29, we know the work educators do today helps build a stronger future for our students, families, and community.

The deadline for our free Heavy Metal Summer Camp is approaching! Application deadline: May 15, 2026

We are proud to be partnering with Heavy Metal Summer Experience again this year to host our HMSE camp in Wichita, Kansas in July.

This FREE camp gives students and recent graduates, ages 16-20, the opportunity to:

✔️Work with sheet metal, piping, and plumbing trades
✔️Collaborate on real projects alongside industry professionals
✔️Tour active job sites and apprenticeship programs
✔️Explore a high-paying career path in the trades


Our camp is about 30 hours of class time with hands on experience and will run Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1 – 5 pm, 7/7 – 7/30, with a graduation ceremony on July 30th.

We're excited to inspire the next generation of skilled workers and help them see firsthand what a career in the mechanical industry can offer!
