Our team is headed to the Kansas Association for Floodplain Management Conference later this week. This annual event connects professionals from across Kansas and the surrounding region who are involved in floodplain management to train and discuss topics necessary for effective planning. We're excited to announce that Matt Billingslea has been elected by PEC's Board of Directors as the company's next President and Chief Executive Officer, effective August 31, 2026.

This planned leadership transition is an intentional step in preparing for President/CEO Joe Surmeier's upcoming retirement and reflects PEC's commitment to thoughtful leadership continuity and long-term success.

After more than 35 years with the company and seven years as President/CEO, Joe will transition from his role while continuing to serve as Chairman of the Board until retirement which will be announced at a later date. In that role, he will remain actively engaged in supporting the company and its leadership team.

Together, Joe and Matt will work closely throughout the transition to support a seamless handoff and continue building on PEC's strong foundation.

Earlier today, the City of Wichita broke ground on Fire Station 23, the city's first new fire station since 2009.

Located in southwest Wichita, this station will help deliver faster emergency responses, improve coverage, and provide firefighters with enhanced resources. The approximately 10,000 SF facility will include updated technology and dedicated health and wellness features designed to improve safety for both first responders and the community they serve. It is one of three new fire stations planned to address the City's continued growth and need for services.

We're proud to partner with TESSERE, City of Wichita- Government, and the Wichita Fire Department by providing electrical, mechanical, and technology design services. Fire Station 23 will be more than a new facility. It's an investment in safer neighborhoods and a stronger future for Wichita.
