Center-tapped transformers are normally used for rectifier and AC circuits. It works in more or less the same way as the typical transformer, but its key characteristic is its ability to split the secondary voltage in half.

When a transformer is center-tapped, it produces two separate output voltages of equal value. This occurs when an additional wire is connected across the exact middle point of a transformer's secondary winding.
