Are you tired of dealing with galvanic corrosion in injection blow mold cavities? Do your aluminum or copper blow mold water lines pit, leak, or fail prematurely, even after investing in plant-wide water conditioning and deionization? You’re not alone – this is a common problem in injection blow molding that leads to costly downtime, frequent mold repairs, and reduced production efficiency.

Introducing Mold Deputy™, the patent-pending cathodic protection system specifically designed to stop galvanic corrosion right inside your injection blow mold cooling channels.

What Causes Galvanic Corrosion in Injection Blow Mold Cavities?

When side plates come in contact with aluminum or copper cavity blocks, and water flows through the cooling lines, a natural electrochemical reaction occurs. This galvanic corrosion attacks the walls of the water lines, causing pitting, erosion, and leaks at seal faces. Central plant water treatment helps, but it can’t stop local reactions at the mold itself. Deionizing water at each machine is an option, but it’s expensive and complicated.

How Mold Deputy™ Solves the Problem

Mold Deputy™ places a replaceable protector directly in the cooling channels, where corrosion starts. Our internal tests began in April 2023. From those early tests we now have two major variants to offer:

– Sacrificial Inserts that “sacrifice” themselves to protect your cavity metal. These are available in three different configurations.

– Impressed-current option for permanent, no-replacement protection with low-power consumption.

The result? Corrosion is redirected away from your valuable cavity, extending mold life significantly.

Key Benefits of Mold Deputy™ for Injection Blow Molding

– Longer Mold Lifespan: Reduces pitting and leaks in blow mold cavities.

– Less Downtime: Quick replacement – external models swap in minutes without mold teardown.

– Cost Savings: No need for expensive per-machine water treatment; protects locally for less.

– Easy Installation: Fits existing ports with simple threaded or fastened designs.

– Flexible Choices: From basic sacrificial to advanced electric versions for zero maintenance.

Learn from an instructor with over 30 years of experience processing and training. Two levels of training are being offered. The first is for those just entering the industry or transitioning from other types of plastic processing. The second level focuses on resolving bottle defects and honing to an optimal process. This training will be offered at our location in Williamstown, NJ. Inquire about hosting the classes at your plant.

The industry needs qualified processors as current talent age out of the workforce. The science behind Injection Blow has been relegated to a small number of individuals.

The Injection Blow Molding industry requires a skilled workforce to ensure its future success. We can equip your team with the with those necessary skills.

Come see our Haas Automation, Inc. ST25Y in action. After we ran off these core rod heads in 420 SS we decided to share the process with everyone. In this video we are cutting aluminum so we can keep the coolant turned off. Otherwise all you'd see is spray.

Hope you enjoy it and please let us know what videos we should make next.
