🚌 BACK TO SCHOOL
Over the next couple of weeks, many West Virginia students will be heading back to school! As our mornings and afternoons get busier, Country Roads Minerals wants to remind everyone to slow down, stay alert, and help keep our kids safe.
🛑 KNOW THE SCHOOL BUS RULES IN WEST VIRGINIA
🟡 Flashing YELLOW lights = SLOW DOWN & PREPARE TO STOP.
The bus is getting ready to pick up or drop off students.
🔴 Flashing RED lights = STOP!
When a school bus is stopped to load or unload children with its warning lights activated, drivers approaching the bus are required to stop and remain stopped until the bus moves again, the driver signals you to proceed, or the warning signals are turned off.
🚗 This generally applies to traffic approaching from BOTH directions. West Virginia law provides a limited exception on controlled-access highways when the bus is on a different roadway or adjacent to the highway where pedestrians are not permitted to cross.
⚠️ Passing a stopped school bus is serious. A first violation can carry a fine, up to six months in jail, or both.
👀 EXTRA EYES SAVE LIVES
Please watch carefully for:
🎒 Children waiting near bus stops
🚸 Students crossing streets and intersections
🚲 Kids walking or biking to school
🏫 Reduced speeds in school zones
🚌 Buses making frequent stops
🏠 Children who may suddenly step into the roadway from driveways or between parked cars
Those extra few seconds you spend slowing down could make all the difference.
