A few of our team members recently attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Town of Shelburne's Wastewater Treatment Facility Modernization Project.

Our Trenchless Technologies crew is on site and is currently drilling near the Shelburne Bay Access Area, under the LaPlatte River. A section of the Ti-Haul Trail walking path will be closed for the safety of everyone while our crew performs trail access maintenance ahead of the planned drilling along the trail later this year.

If you are on the walking path, please do not enter the work zone.

While there is currently no impact to the traveling public, in the coming weeks Bay Road will be closed to thru traffic in this area, so please be on the look out for signage and plan accordingly.

If you are driving through Milton we would ask that you slow down, use caution and follow the directions given by flaggers and road signs. It is up to each and every one of us to make sure we all get home safe at the end of the day.

If you want to read more about the project or sign up for construction updates you can do that through the Town of Milton, VT's website: https://miltonvt.gov/m/newsflash/home/detail/261

Last Friday we had the opportunity to participate in Northwest Technical Center's Skilled Trades Second Annual Signing Day. We are proud to be a part of something that is spotlighting students who are choosing to go directly into the trades.

Congratulations to Nick, Brayden, Hunter and to all your fellow classmates. We are so excited to have you joining our team and look forward to building our world with you!

May we all take some time this Memorial Day Weekend to remember the men and women who gave their lives to protect our freedom.

Thank you for answering the call and being willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice. And thank you to the families of those who never came home. Your sacrifice is never forgotten.

Now that we're pretty confident we're done with snow this year we want to take a moment to thank our Snow Removal Crew for all their hard work and dedication this past winter!

This crew is a group of guys who have volunteered to be on call any time they are needed. What this means is that they will often get called late at night, on the weekend, or early in the morning and end up losing sleep or putting their plans on hold to make sure that everyone who has to go out is safe.

A few quick facts from the 25/26 Season:
Salted 50+ times
Plowed 25 times
Shoveled, plowed and treated sidewalks OVER 60 times
Salt truck drivers applied in excess of 2,000 ton of salt
The crew put down 100’s & 100’s of bags of ice melt

A huge thank you to our snow removal crew!

We would like to introduce our Team Member – Kevin

Kevin is one of our CDL Truck Driver’s. Most of the time he can be found in a dump truck but he’s also willing to grab a tag trailer or lowbed as needed which makes him a huge asset to our team. Kevin is an example of an exemplary driver who is always keeping an eye on how he can help on site and keep the traveling public safe. Without Kevin and our other drivers we would not be able to keep our jobs moving, so thank you!

🦺 Employment at ECI:
7 non-consecutive years.

🦺 What attracted you to ECI:
His mom worked for ECI when he was young, so he had been around the company his whole life and liked that they treat employees like people and not just a number.

🦺 Qualifications:
Kevin came to ECI with his Class A CDL and since being at ECI has also got his hazmat and tanker endorsement.

🦺 How have you grown at ECI:
He was hired as a civil laborer and then progressed to skilled laborer in the first two years he worked at ECI. At that point he decided to leave and try out other career paths but ultimately, he came back to ECI with his Class A CDL and has been driving truck for the last 5 years.

🦺 Most fun job:
Kevin enjoys using his Class A to haul things as it’s less monotonous than driving dump truck all day.

🦺 What do you do for fun outside of work:
He enjoys hiking, hanging out with friends and family, and trying new things.

🦺 Fun fact:
Kevin has a registered still and enjoys making wine, cider and whiskey. He really enjoys the science behind perfecting a recipe, and his favorite so far has been a honey blueberry wine.

🦺 What is your favorite thing about working at ECI:
The culture the company has fostered is what brought Kevin back to ECI. It feels like a big family where everyone is looking for ways to help each other, instead of everyone just trying to get their own work done so they can go home as quickly as possible.

We were contracted by Crooker Construction of Topsham Maine to perform the trenchless installation of a 48" x 70' grade sensitive steel casing with a .75 wall thickness under the Cumberland & Knox Railroad for the City of Bath, Maine Harward Street Pump Station and Sewer Interceptor Upgrade Project.

We rented an American Auger model 48/54-900 from West Texas Auger to complete this project and having the right Auger made all the difference. The advance rate on the casing averaged about one hour per 20’ section. Two of our welders, Mike and Chris, performed the welding in an equally impressive amount of time and overall this project took 3 working days to complete.

To the crew of 5 who was willing to travel up to Maine to complete this install, thank you!

We would like to introduce our Team Member – Derek

Derek is an Operator in our Civil Division. Those who work with Derek appreciate how deeply he cares about the quality of the work. He is always on the lookout for where he can help to keep the job running safely and efficiently. Derek exemplifies our Code of Conduct and we are so thankful to have him as part of our team!

🦺 Employment at ECI:
14 years

🦺 What attracted you to ECI:
In 2009 Derek graduated from Paul Smith’s College with a degree in Forestry. He started working for Lamell Lumber and was able to use his degree, but ultimately he wanted to work somewhere else. His father worked at ECI and encouraged him to apply, and as the saying goes, the rest is history.

🦺 How have you grown at ECI:
Derek was hired as a laborer and through hard work he was promoted to skilled laborer and then operator.

🦺 Most fun job:
Derek loves operating any excavator but really enjoyed operating a John Deere 470 excavator on a project in Irasburg.

🦺 What do you do for fun outside of work:
Derek enjoys being on his motorcycle as often as the weather allows.

🦺 Fun fact:
Last summer he fulfilled a lifelong dream and bought a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R.

🦺 What is your favorite thing about working at ECI:
He loves that the company as a whole is not afraid to push the envelope and try new things. Each specialty service we offer is because somewhere along the way someone decided to try something different, and that has proven to help ECI grow into what it is today.
