And that’s a wrap (for now) at the rice storage facility near Biggs. The concrete company has to pour what we’ve got done and let it cure so that trucks can drive on it so that we can get the final section done. It should take about a week to cure. Then we spotted gravel along side where the valley gutter is going so that later on we can dress up the sides of it also. We still have two rolls of fabric and that should more than cover the remaining road. We do have to order five more loads of engineered fill to finish up when we return. In the meantime, on to other projects. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Work progresses at the rice storage facility near Biggs. More fabric was laid down and covered with engineered fill. We can’t use the laser on some of it so we have to use the 'swedes' to check grade (See picture number five). Still having to dodge grain trucks, but no serious issues. To be continued next week.

Last weekend’s storm didn’t do us any favors but it didn’t stop us from getting stuff done. We couldn’t pick up where we left off because it was too wet. But there were other areas to work on. On Monday we excavated a small triangular area on the other side, put down the fabric and got it covered with the engineered fill roughed in. We also had the trucking company stockpile 550 tons of the engineered fill out by the gravel and dirt piles. Tuesday we finished trimming the triangle to grade, then started back on the drier areas we were doing before. Today we finished most of the excavation and got one large area of fabric laid out and covered with fill and graded. And we got some fabric down in the next section, which we should finish easily tomorrow. All while dodging grain trucks and roofers. The wind didn’t help matters but with a lot of help from the other company we got a lot done. After that we’ll excavate the main road which will be easy because it’s a straight shot and there’s no obstacles and we can use the laser on the whole thing.

We finished up at the Glenn project early Monday morning (sorry no pics), and got some of the equipment moved to the next project out near Biggs. We’re at a rice storage facility, grading and excavating dirt and gravel down 14 inches for 6” of gravel and 8” of concrete. We’re having to deal with rice trucks, wind, rice dust, and rock hard dirt that we eventually had the main contractor use the jackhammer on a bobcat to bust through it. We’re also trying to save the gravel, so I have two piles I’m working on. One for good material, and the big pile is dirty material. We also have to lay down fabric before we bring in the new gravel. We’re going to be here for a little while. Still building America one project at a time. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Thursday we were back at the walnut processing plant in Glenn. They recently tore down an old milk barn and wanted it graveled. So we excavated the dirt down 6 inches, and graded for drainage. Then on Friday we brought in the gravel. We don’t usually work on Saturday but the weather has us a little behind schedule so we worked today too. We graded and filled potholes and floated the roads around the plant. On Monday we will dress up the trailer yard. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

On Monday we started clearing vegetation and grading for drainage on an equipment pad out on road xx near Ord Bend. On Tuesday we had 3 trucks bringing base rock. They pretty much kept us hopping. We got all the gravel in but didn’t quite get finished. This morning we finished the rough grading, then we fine tuned it with the float tractor and the roller. The customer was very pleased. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Today we were back at the storage facility. The owner tried to gravel the unloading area that we had graded but without the proper equipment it was just a bunch of loose gravel. He was getting stuck. So with the float tractor and roller we whipped it into shape in no time. About the only place around that was unaffected by all the rain this weekend.

Edit: I didn’t realize until now that some of the pictures are blurry. Sorry about that.

The first picture is what we saw last week when we checked out this project at a walnut processing plant near Chico. The other company got everything drained and yesterday we went to work. They’re putting in a concrete washout area and concreting the other part to meet the gutter. We got most of it done yesterday and today we cleaned it up. We convinced them that since we had the equipment there, they should let us grade the entry road and the road to the scales which were pretty rough. They agreed and we got that done in short order. Another happy customer. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Yesterday we prepped the encroachment area and got it laid out. Today we paved it. We recruited Frank to help us with this.
Once everything was ready, it only took about 1 1/2 hours to get the mix spread out and rolled. But that 1 1/2 hours we are hustling. There’s just the 3 of us. Not bad for 3 old guys. We were done by 11:30. Also moved most of the equipment to the new project. I’m exhausted.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Despite the the rain on Wednesday night, we were able to lay down the crushed rock yesterday. The gravel truck driver spread in the dry areas, then dumped three boxes on the backside for us to spread with the tractor in the softer areas. Then today the owner asked us to smooth out the unloading area where he unloads trucks. We trimmed it with the grader and I hauled it out with the scraper. Finally we removed the old asphalt from the encroachment because the county said he needed a new one. We’re going to pave that at some point in the future. Ended the day in the rain, but we got it done. ✅ 🇺🇸

This week’s project started in Orland last week. We moved the equipment in on Thursday and started moving dirt on Friday. The owner needed gravel brought in and since the whole area is a gravel bar, we used what was there. It saved the owner thousands of dollars. We got everything graded and rolled, and if yesterday’s rain wasn’t too bad, we’re going to put crushed rock on it today. Still building America one project at a time. 🇺🇸
