After 15 years with Thomas Construction Group and a 42-year career in Wilmington, Vince Tryer is beginning his well-earned retirement!

Vince has played a meaningful role in helping shape Thomas into the company it is today. Over the years, he has strengthened our operations, led major projects, supported our teams, and contributed to the foundation we continue to build on.

Those who have worked with Vince know his leadership style well: steady, direct, committed, and always focused on getting the job done the right way. He brought urgency to his work, followed through on his commitments, and earned respect across our company and with our clients.

We closed out Construction Safety Week back at our Columbus Regional Advanced Care – Leland project with a Rescue Demonstration presented by the Leland Fire Department!

This week gave us the opportunity to pause, refocus, and reinforce the safety habits that protect our people every day. Through the pillars of Recognize, Respond, and Respect, our teams explored how early hazard recognition, clear communication, mutual accountability, and collaboration with our trade partners all play a role in preventing serious injuries and fatalities.

From hands-on demonstrations to jobsite trainings, each event reminded us that safety is not a one-week focus. It is a daily commitment built through planning, awareness, and the willingness to speak up when something does not look or feel right.

Thank you to the Leland Fire Department, our project teams, trade partners, and everyone who participated throughout the week.

Safety takes planning, preparation, and partnership. Today, the Novant Health Midtown Medical Plaza jobsite saw that firsthand during a Rescue Demonstration presented by Wilmington Fire Department Stations 2 and 5. 🚒

Today’s theme is Respect, and on a jobsite, respect starts with the plan.

Respecting the plan means more than following steps. It means trusting the process, communicating clearly, reassessing when conditions change, and speaking up when something doesn’t look or feel right. It also means empowering every person on site to use Stop Work Authority when needed.

Thank you to Wilmington Fire Department Stations 2 and 5 for joining us and helping reinforce the practices that protect our people every day.

When we respect the plan, we strengthen our safety culture and help make sure everyone goes home safely!
