Code Reminder – Venting Materials in Maine

We came across a system today that was vented using IPEX System 636.

Please note that UL 1738 and System 636 venting materials are not approved for venting under the Maine plumbing/ fuel code. Always verify that the venting material being installed is approved by both the appliance manufacturer and the codes adopted in Maine. Maine currently enforces the 2021 Uniform Plumbing Code with state-specific amendments. (Maine⁠)

Additionally, all solvent-welded vent piping in Maine must be installed using a contrasting primer and cement. Clear primer or clear/UV cement does not meet Maine code requirements. Be sure the primer remains visibly distinguishable from the cement for inspection purposes. (Maine⁠)

Taking a few extra minutes to verify approved vent materials and use the proper primer and cement can help prevent failed inspections and ensure a safe, code-compliant installation.
