AWI Manufacturing is a second-generation, Minnesota family business. After years of working on road crews, Art Scherping recognized the need for better quality manufactured parts. He decided to craft them himself, and, in 1970, Art’s Welding, Inc. Through the years, Art’s kids worked alongside their father and grew with the business.

When customers shared the need for a trench drain with the benefits of a round-bottom design, we saw an opportunity to expand our product line with a solution designed to support efficient flow, simplify cleaning, and make long-term maintenance easier.

Every design decision has a purpose. The Round Bottom Trench Drain wasn't created simply to add another option—it was developed in response to real operational challenges and the needs of the facilities we serve.

It’s time for another Employee Spotlight! 👋 Meet Kate Schmitz, one of our Production Schedulers.

Kate is coming up on one year with AWI this October! Her favorite part of the job is the atmosphere and how everyone is willing to work together and help each other accomplish tasks.

A few fun facts about Kate: she’s from Bloomington, MN, loves chimichangas, and her favorite movie is Beauty and the Beast. When she’s not at work, she enjoys going to the gym and attending her kids’ hockey and lacrosse games. And possibly the coolest fun fact—she’s rebuilt a 1956 Studebaker truck! 🛻🔧
