Happy 4th of July weekend to everyone! I just wanted to remind everyone that with the forecasted temperatures we are going to see for the next week, we will certainly see many air conditioners that are not able to keep up. This does not mean that they necessarily have an issue. If your thermostat shows a difference between actual and set point of up to about 4 degrees, don’t panic just yet. Most systems in our region are designed based on a 92 degree day. With sustained days over that, they will not keep up during the day. They should recover overnight, though. Look for them to run A LOT!! We will be running emergency calls over the weekend as we are able, but will be a little short handed, so please be understanding. Here are some tips or things you can look for…

-Make sure your filter is clean! Very important as much as it will be running the next month or so.

-If your system is in a basement, you may have an overflow metal pan beneath the unit, check it for water. Water in the pan can keep your air conditioner from running.

-Try not to cook or dry clothes any more than you have to as they add extra heat to the house.

-If you need to call, please have as much information about your system available because it may be something we can even help you with over the phone. Is it blowing air? Is the outside unit running? This can help us a a lot!

-Keep shades and curtains closed to keep the sunlight out.

-You might even want to speak with a neighbor or friend from church. Let them know if their air conditioning goes out, you’ve got a place for them to stay. Hopefully they’ll return the favor.
We will get through this, but it’s going to be hot getting through it. I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe 4th as we celebrate 250 years of this land we call home. May God continue to bless these United States of America!!

Just a reminder as we head into next week with forecasted highs in the high 90’s, that if you are a Duke Energy Load Control customer, they may be activating it. If your air conditioning cuts off, check the Duke box near your ac. Typically a red or green light will show whether the air conditioner is being controlled by Duke. The instructions are on the box. Before you call, check to make sure Duke hasn’t cut you off for a little while.

As long as the grill area on top of your heat pump is not iced over, you’re better off running your heat as normal. I’m in southern Forsyth and these are my heat pumps this morning, still running on normal heat. We’ve had mostly sleet so far, which is good as far as heat pumps are concerned. With temps this cold, they are going to run A LOT, but still better than going to emergency heat ($$$).

Just a reminder that as the freezing rain starts that heat pumps will be in trouble. We suggest switching thermostats to emergency heat until the freezing rain stops and things warm up a little. You are best off leaving the heat pump running until the fan blades start to become compromised. You can watch your heat pumps until ice begins to form on the top before switching to emergency heat. Hopefully we won’t need it, but just in case. Take care!!
