Thankful for and for hosting an outstanding grazing school at Green Pastures Farm in Rucker, MO! 🙌
I can’t recommend Greg’s YouTube channel enough (gregjudyregenerativerancher). Seeing his operation in person was mind blowing. if you run livestock, do yourself a favor and make the trip to Missouri. You won’t regret it.
One photo in this carousel stood out to me. The perspective of the herd gathering under the oak is a poignant reminder that while the cattle graze freely all of creation is connected. On a practical note the cows are actually well into the foreground and the tree is fenced off at its drip line, preventing the herd from congregating beneath it. Why? Because a heavy, concentrated deposit of manure and urine will eventually kill even a healthy tree. Greg only allows the herd under legacy trees for very short, controlled windows, an occasioned 8-hour stretch on the hottest days of the year.
Greg knows this from his experience… because he’s killed trees before. In fact, he’s made plenty of mistakes over the years, and that’s exactly what made the workshop so powerful. His humility and willingness to share those hard lessons were incredible.
If you’re in regenerative ag or just curious about better grazing, drop a comment: what’s one lesson you’ve learned the hard way?
