Once in a blue moon, there is a Blue Moon. Don’t look too hard, the moon doesn’t actually turn blue. It is just a name we give to it because it doesn’t happen very often. The next will be on Sunday, May 31.

The latest smart telescope option is the Dwarf Mini from Dwarf Labs. Dwarf Labs calls it the first pocket sized smart telescope. It is small enough to fit into your pocket. Although not while it's operating. You do have to set it up first - which is easy.

As we have pointed out in previous notes and articles, the world of amateur astronomy is going through a huge change – maybe even an upheaval. It is because of what are called smart telescope…

Well folks, we’re getting close to summer and it's time for those of us at the Forsyth Astronomical Society to take a break. Summertime is somewhat problematic when it comes to observing the night sky. It gets dark too late and the summer humidity and bugs play havoc with our night-time observing. But, don’t worry, we’ll be back in the fall.

On Friday the 13th, you might need to duck, but not for another three years. However, we want you to be ready. Asteroid 99942 Apophis is on its way toward the Earth. There have been reports that it might be too close of an encounter. However, don’t worry, this isn’t a repeat of the asteroid that hit the Earth 66 million years ago and wiped out the dinosaurs.

FAS Astronomers Blog, Volume 34, Number 4. Globular Clusters (aka Globulars) are some of the more interesting objects viewed by amateur astronomers, although they do tend to the look the same. There are more than 150 of these visible in the Milky Way galaxy.
