The end of an era.

Today, our crew removed the last overhead electric pole in Woodbine, marking the completion of a project that has transformed our community and made local history.

For decades, utility poles and overhead power lines were a familiar part of our landscape. Today, that chapter came to a close as Woodbine Municipal Light & Power officially completed the transition to a fully underground electric distribution system.

This milestone didn’t happen overnight. It represents years of planning, investment, determination, and the hard work of many dedicated employees past and present. Most importantly, it reflects our commitment to providing safe, reliable electric service to the community we are proud to serve.

As we celebrate 85 years of public power in Woodbine, we couldn’t think of a more fitting reminder of how far we’ve come. The photos of our crew taking down the final pole capture more than a job completed, they capture a moment that future generations will look back on as a turning point in our utility’s history.

To our crew: thank you for your hard work, dedication, and pride in serving this community every day.

Today wasn’t just the removal of a pole.

It was the completion of a vision.

Here’s to the next chapter of powering Woodbine.

There are some thank yous that mean a little extra.

Recently Woodbine Municipal Light & Power and our own Jim Reisz were presented with a beautiful shadow box and thank you note in recognition of Jim’s participation in the Light Up Navajo Project.

The shadow box included corn, symbolizing culture, tradition, and community - a meaningful reminder of the families and communities impacted by this project.

We are incredibly proud that Jim had the opportunity to represent Woodbine and public power while helping bring electricity to homes across the Navajo Nation. Projects like this show what public power is all about: neighbors helping neighbors, even hundreds of miles from home.

Thank you, Jim, for your willingness to serve and for representing our community so well.

We’re incredibly proud to share that our own Jim Reisz had the opportunity to be part of this amazing effort. Spending a week in Arizona helping bring electricity to families of the Navajo Nation is no small task, but it’s exactly what public power is all about. From long days, to tough terrain, Jim represented Woodbine the way we always hope to do: with hard work, dedication and heart. This is bigger than just power lines…it’s about people, connection, and making a lasting impact.

Today, on National Lineman Appreciation Day, we proudly recognize the dedicated men who continue the legacy of service that has powered our community for 85 years.

Since 1941, our utility has been committed to keeping the lights on for the families, and businesses we serve. For 85 years, that promise has been carried forward by the skill, grit, and dedication of our line crews.

Through storms, outages, freezing temperatures, high winds, and long nights, our linemen show up when our community needs them most. Their work is demanding, dangerous, and often happens behind the scenes, but their impact is felt in every home and every business we power.

As we celebrate our 85th anniversary, we honor not only the history of those who built our system, but also the linemen who continue that tradition of excellence today.

Thank you to the men who climb higher, work harder, and keep Woodbine powered.

⚡85 years of service. Generations of dedication.⚡
