Dust, dirt, & allergens, oh my!

Obviously, change your air filters regularly, but have you thought about having your air ducts cleaned?

The comfort of your home is significantly affected by your in-home air quality. The presence of particles of dust, mold spores, pollen, and even insect droppings can cause reactions, even in the healthiest people. Regular air duct cleaning is one way to improve the overall quality of the air in your home.

Common signs your air ducts need to be cleaned:

• Air vents are coated in dust or are dirty
• Your home becomes dusty very quickly
• Your air filters are very dirty when you change them out
• You've undergone major renovations recently
• Unpleasant odor from your ducts
• Unstable or poor airflow in your home

AC systems are dependent on airflow to run efficiently.

Not only do dirty air ducts affect the air you breathe, but excess debris floating around will clog your air filters, make the cooling coils dirty and put an unnecessary burden on your HVAC system. This burden causes components to overheat and wear out quickly, often causing a cascade of expensive failures to repair. Add air duct cleaning to your healthy HVAC system routine.

Summer is coming.

How's your AC system doing?

Knowledge is power & can save you money in the long run

Stay proactive and take the necessary precautions to ensure your HVAC system is ready to do its job in the summer.

Complete maintenance on your equipment once per season to ensure it is working at peak efficiency. Change your filter regularly (more often if you have pets). Be prepared for when your system is starting to get older. A typical lifespan of an HVAC unit is about 10-15 years.

Catching problems early while the price tag and the effect on working parts are at their lowest is the goal. And there are perks to catching things early – especially before the summer season when AC companies are booked, and new units are in demand.

If your unit is older and the repairs are racking up, now is the perfect time to get a quote and think seriously about replacing it. Commonly off-season replacements are less expensive. You have more to choose from and time to make a sound decision.

Airflow, airflow, airflow!

When it comes to a healthy HVAC system, it's all about airflow. Your air filter's number one job is to keep your coil clean and prevent dirt and large particles from entering your system. The filter also removes pet dander, bacteria, smoke, dust, and dirt from the air you breathe in your home. Win-win.

We are constantly nagging about changing your filter, but for a good reason, dirty and blocked filters starve your system of its airflow.

During your spring inspection, ask your technician about installing a media filter cabinet. This accordion-style filter type allows for a much larger surface area to collect all unwanted dirt, dust, and debris and enables a good, healthy airflow. Media filters need to be replaced every 3-6 months depending on pets and the number of people living in the home.

Call us today to schedule your media filter cabinet installation and receive $50 off! https://lnkd.in/gumjg4ZF

Got gray Poly B pipes in your home?

From 1978 to 1995, polybutylene pipes, also known as PB, Poly B, poly pipe, gray poly, and QUEST, were the most popular substitute for traditional copper.

The issue with Poly B pipes is that over several years, a combination of oxidation and chlorine in the water supply causes polybutylene pipes to swell and crack, causing them to leak.

They are no longer used because there were a lot of lawsuits against polybutylene pipe manufacturers, and they stopped manufacturing the piping.

If you think you have poly pipes in your home, check for the manufacturer stamp "PB2110." They're usually gray or white but may also be blue, black, or silver.

Poly pipe was typically:

• Used as the main water supply line (underground piping)
• Used to supply plumbing fixtures and water heaters
• Installed in basements, crawl spaces, and other unfinished areas

How to avoid a poly pipe nightmare?

Make sure you hire the right company. Nichols & Phipps help homeowners with their poly pipe problems every day of the week.

Got gray poly pipe in your home?

From 1978 to 1995, polybutylene was a popular form of plastic resin water supply piping used extensively in residential buildings.

Also known as PB, Poly B, poly pipe, gray poly, and QUEST, it was incredibly low cost and easy to install, leading it to be the most popular substitute for traditional copper piping.

It might have sounded great to the companies manufacturing it and installing it, but homeowners are now stuck dealing with the fallout of subpar piping.

What’s the problem with poly pipe?

Over several years, a combination of oxidation and chlorine in the water supply causes polybutylene pipes to swell and crack. Simply put, it's a matter of when, not if, your polybutylene piping will leak, potentially causing significant water damage to your home.

Don’t panic! There is a solution. The best solution is to replace the piping now and avoid any problems in the future.

Call us at (703) 670-8519 and receive $250 off an entire Poly B pipe replacement.

What would it cost to replace ALL the items that are plugged into an electrical outlet in your home?

Relying on power strips and crossed fingers to defend your valuable appliances and electronics during a storm or electrical surge can be a costly mistake.

Not only is a power surge an inconvenience, but did you know an electrical power surge can seriously damage or completely kill your HVAC system, electronics, and appliances?

A power surge may last for only a blip of a second, but it carries a massive amount of voltage – enough to fry circuit boards – and put a huge dent in your wallet.

Think about it… every single device in your house that plugs into a wall could instantly be fried. We are talking about the obvious things like computers, routers, TVs, gaming consoles, but also your security system, HVAC system, oven, stovetop, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, clothes washer, and dryer. If it is plugged in, it is fair game!

Take the necessary precautions to help protect your electronics and your HVAC system from electrical surges. Purge the surge with help from our team!

If you want to avoid mishaps when it comes to electrical surges, then bring out the big guns and let our team inspect your electrical panel and install the perfect surge protection for your home.

Boost your health & comfort by adding a UV light

Mold, odors, and pathogens can live in your plenum and ducts and run rampant in your home, causing health issues such as:

Viral or bacterial infections
Allergic response to allergens
Asthmatic flare-ups

Proper air filtration is the first line of defense against the circulation of microbes within your HVAC system.

You can eliminate these undesirable visitors and improve indoor air quality by adding ultraviolet light to your home filtration system.

We recommend adding the Germicidal UV Light by TechPure or the Air Knight IPG Air Purifier. Both work with your home's HVAC system and can fight against nasty pathogens.

It can be a bit confusing trying to find the right additions to your home's HVAC system.

Is your heater sucking the moisture out of you & your home?

Dry air is more than an inconvenience. It can actually affect your health and your home.

The air wants moisture and finds a source wherever it can.

That means it pulls water from your body and can also siphon from the wood in your home.

Humidifiers are your new best friend for the colder months!

When things start to cool down, and you turn on the heater, you may find your home feeling excessively dry.

Dry air is more than an inconvenience. It can actually affect your health and your home.

If your air isn't balanced with the proper amount of moisture, it can enable viruses to linger longer in the air, which makes them easier to spread. When you have low moisture in the air, it pulls water from your body and can also contribute to health issues such as:

Nose bleeds
Stuffy nose & congestion
Headaches
Dehydration
Dry, itchy skin
Dry, burning eyes
Upper respiratory infections
Sleeping difficulties (it's hard to sleep with all these symptoms!)
Your home also feels the effects of low moisture

Our bodies don't like the water-siphoning effects of low humidity, and neither do your home and your furnishings.

The air wants moisture and finds a source wherever it can. This means from the wood in your home, including doors, window frames, and hardwood floors. You will notice things creaking more, not closing properly, and structural shifts that cause gaps and even damage to your home.

It also can affect your furniture, musical instruments, books, and artwork. Items may become brittle, warped, and cracked.

And don't forget static electricity! We've all experienced the electric zap when we touch a doorknob or while folding clothes in the winter. Your kids may enjoy zapping their siblings, but you and your pets are not big fans.

Humidifiers are your new best friend for the colder months!

Like our favorite from Aprilaire, humidifiers can be installed as part of your home's HVAC system to help deliver the perfect amount of comfortable and balanced, humidified air throughout your entire home.

What is a Heating Inspection?

A heating inspection includes a full range of checks on your heating system. It is designed to find small issues before they can turn into big problems and is a major part of the preventative maintenance you'll have for your heating unit. Scheduling pre-season maintenance and inspection is one of the best ways to assure your heating system will make it through the cold winter months without fail.

Why Do You Need this Inspection?

An inspection can save you money. Not only will you find small problems before they turn into big ones (so that you can avoid those major repair bills), but your inspector may find issues that make your system use more energy and make your utility bills higher. Finally, an inspection or heating tuneup can help you find problems while your system is still under warranty.

Reasons to have your heating system inspected:

• You just purchased the home and have no idea of the health of your
heating system
• You are not fond of being caught by surprise
• Ongoing maintenance reduces the risk of failure during the cold winter
when your system is under duress.
• You like finding and fixing problems early while the price tag is smaller
• Knowledge is power.

What Does it Cost?

It's $75.00 for a one-time heating season inspection ($89 for each additional unit) for new customers. See coupon below.

Our Comfort Club Maintenance Program starts at $169 ($145 for each additional unit) for new members and includes 2 inspections per year, priority service calls, a 20% discount on service calls, 15% off on repairs, plus a whole lot more during your membership year. See our site for full details.
