Intern Spotlight: Paul ✨
Read down below about his experience working at BTL this summer 😊

This summer, I have been able to learn and gain a ton of valuable experience in wood structural engineering with BTL Engineering.

Throughout the summer, I have been tagging along on-site visits, observing the existing framing of structures while also looking for potential issues. In the office, I have been doing calculations for various structures, sizing beams, tracing loads through a building, and making sure each structure can withstand seismic and wind forces.

I have really enjoyed my internship so far. I truly feel like I am gaining valuable experience from working in the office alongside people with years of structural engineering experience and then seeing how that engineering is applied during site visits as I observe how houses are framed and built. I have even found myself looking at my own house, and other houses, a lot differently now that I know more about how they are built.

This internship has set me up really well as I head into my last year of college. I have gained a lot of knowledge about wood design and how to build and design structures, which I did not have much experience with before.

I am very thankful to everyone in the office who has been willing to teach me and help me learn. Everyone at BTL has been incredibly helpful, and I have never felt afraid to ask questions. I feel like I have learned so much from everyone I have had the opportunity to work with and spend time with.

I plan to pursue a job in structural engineering after I graduate, so this internship has given me valuable experience in a field that I am excited to continue growing in.

πŸ† Employee of the Month: Roxi 🐾

Meet our hardest worker... when she's awake. 😴

Roxi takes her responsibilities very seriously, supervising from the desk to making sure everyone takes proper nap breaks. While she has been caught sleeping on the job once (or twice), her morale-boosting skills and tail-wagging enthusiasm have earned her Employee of the Month. πŸΆπŸ’™

Safe to say, she's the real boss around here.

BTL Engineering was proud to partner on the exciting 18800 Front Street construction project in downtown Poulsbo, WA with Chinook Contractors and Wattenbarger Architects. The project made up of a full renovation of an existing 3-story early 1900’s building which entailed full lateral and seismic upgrades plus framing upgrades to address deficiencies and change of occupancy. An additional story was added to the southern portion of the building that would incorporate commercial space and a large outdoor deck.

Phase 2 of the project included a new 3-story addition with one and a half levels of parking and wood-framed apartments. The transfer deck consisted of a concrete filled metal deck and steel beams with welded headed studs to create efficient beam sizes by utilizing composite action. No PT slabs were used due to site constraints. A concrete buttress wall design was provided between the Phase 1 and Phase 2 foundation to resist surcharge loads and the stepping site topography.
