In 1788, Judge John Cleves Symmes purchased one million acres between the Great and Little Miami Rivers, and Ohio surveyors were tasked with making sense of it all. The boundary work from that survey still shapes property lines in Hamilton County today. Some problems only a surveyor can solve.

In 1808, Ohio surveyors mapped what became known as the Firelands: half a million acres in what is now Huron and Erie Counties, set aside for Connecticut residents whose homes were burned during the Revolutionary War.
