"Everything they said is what they did." - Jeff Mitchell

That’s the standard we hold ourselves to.

Whether it's supporting local organizations and causes, or conducting thorough environmental studies before we break ground, our values underpin everything we do.

What is a data center?

The short answer: it's a warehouse full of computers.

The more detailed answer? Think about every time you swipe your card at the gas station, log in to check your bank statement, or go to the doctor and they pull up your health records. That's a data center at work.

In other words, data centers are now in the same category of “essential infrastructure” as plumbing, power lines, and roadways. And like any essential infrastructure, when it’s designed well and built responsibly, they should blend into our world and “just work” without us ever thinking about them.

This week, the Nobles County Board voted to end the AUAR study for our proposed data center.

Projects should involve community input, and we’re grateful to everyone who took the time to engage in the process.

"We don't do NDAs with any local officials. Haven't done them, won't do them. We're coming out front and telling you what it is."

Geronimo Power's Drew Terwilliger, Executive Vice President, Strategy & Commercialization, spoke with Public News Service about what a community-first and transparent approach to data center development looks like — and what that means for southern Minnesota. Come by — our doors are open.

Geronimo Power has always believed that open, transparent engagement is the right way to do this work, even when it's not easy. That didn't start with this project, and it doesn't stop here.

Following last month's board vote, we're taking time to consider the best path forward. We continue to believe projects like this can bring real benefits to host communities and the broader region — and we're hearing strong interest from other communities across Southwest Minnesota.

In the meantime, if you have questions, feedback, or just want to talk — stop by office hours:
Tuesdays: 5:00–7:00 PM
Wednesdays: 7:30–9:30 AM

The first public comment period for the AUAR environmental review has ended.

This step was focused on scoping — defining the topics experts will study. Next, they'll analyze the project's impacts across Nobles County and prepare a draft AUAR.

For more than 20 years, Geronimo Power has developed large infrastructure projects by putting communities first — with early outreach, open communication, and a focus on long‑term local benefit. Founded by a Minnesota farmer, that philosophy has guided our work across the Midwest and continues to guide how we’re approaching the Nobles County Powered Data Park.

Here, that has included hosting open houses and weekly coffee hours, opening a local office, working through environmental review, and continuing to listen and share information as the process moves forward.

“There has been a fair amount of information shared on both sides of the discussion,” said Darcy Ulbrich, a Reading resident. “Open and transparent communication is essential to making good decisions as a community. By focusing on accurate information, respectful dialogue, and a thoughtful public process, we can ensure residents are informed, heard, and confident in how decisions about our future are made.”
