Large-scale HVAC takeoffs highlight the complexity and precision required behind modern mechanical systems in today’s buildings.

Our team recently completed a detailed HVAC takeoff for a large IC&I project. The scope involved analyzing the Level 1 HVAC layout and quantifying major system components directly from the mechanical drawings. This process included a comprehensive review of the duct distribution network, air terminals, and related mechanical infrastructure.

Key elements captured during the takeoff included:

• Extensive supply, return, and exhaust ductwork layouts across the entire floor plate
• Detailed quantity analysis of air diffusers, grilles, and registers distributed across multiple zones
• Identification of branch duct connections and trunk mains to ensure accurate material quantities
• Coordination of mechanical distribution routes through dense architectural and structural areas
• Review of system zoning and airflow distribution for efficient air delivery
• Integration of mechanical routing with building layout constraints

For this project, our team utilized Bluebeam Revu for drawing review and Trimble AutoBid SheetMetal to perform precise quantity takeoffs and generate structured estimates.
