We're thrilled to share a beautiful result from our collaborators at Yale University, and to announce exciting news for the CLEM community.
The image below shows Halo-Nanogold® targeting Lamin A/C at the nuclear envelope in a live mouse embryo, captured by TEM. After injection into the cytoplasm, the 5 nm Nanogold® particles successfully enter the nuclear membrane to produce strikingly clean, precise labeling, pinpointing specific molecules at nanometer scale.
This result comes from a landmark study just published in Nature Methods: "ExoSloNano: multimodal nanogold labels for identification of macromolecules in live cells and cryo-electron tomograms" (Young, Sherrard et al., 2026). The paper demonstrates that Halo-Nanogold® probes can be introduced into live mammalian cells, enabling correlative fluorescence and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) imaging while preserving intact molecular networks and cell viability.
The Halo-Nanogold® probe used in this study is now available to order from Nanoprobes: nanoprobes.com
Under a joint SBIR grant, we’ve developed a full suite of multiplexed CLEM labels, combining Halo tags with fluorescence and gold nanoparticle EM labels as a single reagent. Available in three Nanogold sizes (1.4, 5 and 12 nm) and optional fluorophore of your choice.
We thank Dr. Alice Sherrard (Yale University / Giraldez lab) for this beautiful image and for their outstanding collaborative work. We also acknowledge Yale University for their contributions to this research.
