As part of the Optimum Circularity pillar of our Twentyby30 sustainability program, we strive to recycle and reuse valuable resources and minimize waste. This includes efforts to make our aluminum and steel cans 10% lighter in weight by 2030 compared to a 2019 baseline. As of December 31, 2021, we are proud to have achieved a 4% global average reduction in our standard 12 oz. or 330 ml can weight. This significant accomplishment puts us 40% of the way toward our stated goal early into program implementation.

Our Customer Technical Support (CTS) team played a pivotal role in reaching this milestone. They worked closely with in-house R&D experts, suppliers and customers to provide product analysis and counsel on maintaining the integrity and performance of the lighter beverage cans. We continue to dedicate 60% of R&D initiatives to minimizing the footprint of our products and manufacturing processes to further advance a sustainable future.

America Recycles Day, an annual opportunity to raise awareness about the positive impact of recycling and strive for higher recycling rates in the United States. The Keep America Beautiful program, which organizes and promotes this day of action, works to educate individuals on where and how to recycle, as well as to be mindful of what they consume and how it is disposed.

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), current U.S. recycling rates have jumped over 25 percent in the past 60 years. Although this number demonstrates valuable improvement, we are dedicated to growing these figures even more through work around aluminum beverage cans, which are infinitely recyclable. From organizing and hosting the first Global Aluminum Can Sustainability Summit, to setting new global recycling goals in the regions we operate and supporting more effective can capture systems, we are invested in creating impactful policies that make recycling streams more successful.

Beverage cans are already the most recycled drinks package in the world. As a Company, we have set ambitious goals to further increase aluminum beverage can rates worldwide. To get there, we are driving action around improved public and private recycling access, greater consumer education on the importance of recycling, more effective can capture systems at recycling centers and increased support around legislative recycling policies. Our efforts also include close collaboration with the Can Manufacturers Institute, who has just released a detailed recycling primer and roadmap that explains how the U.S. aluminum beverage can industry will achieve its recycling targets via four pillars of action.

October is , a time to raise awareness about the impact of the disease while highlighting the importance of early detection and screening practices.

As one in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer in her lifetime, it is critical to schedule regular screenings, such as mammograms and ultrasounds. Although these services cannot prevent breast cancer, catching warning signs early can expand treatment options and significantly decrease health risks.

Our employees’ health and wellbeing continue to be a top priority at Crown, which is why for nearly 20 years, we’ve worked with The Fox Chase Cancer Center of Philadelphia to provide on-site mammograms for our team. The mobile Mammography Screening Unit first visited us back in 2004 and has now completed more than 800 screening tests, offering accessible preventative healthcare services that are crucial in the fight against breast cancer.

Last week, Crown welcomed our US and Canadian Human Resources Teammates to the Yardley, PA Headquarters for the 2022 Human Resources Development Program.

This four day event included a Strategic Human Resources Business Partner training and certification delivered by Human Capital Institute. The HR team also met with many corporate partners to improve their understanding of company systems, learn new processes and be current on upcoming company developments.

Each plant offered an overview of the last year’s initiatives and shared best practices. The group also conducted a half-day session focusing on improving our onboarding and inclusion initiatives. This collaborative session resulted in a variety of ideas and action items that we will be rolling out US/Canada-wide to ensure a new Crown employee has an amazing transition to the company and their new role.

Crown is expanding and growing, including staffing up for new can line expansions at existing plants, as well as new greenfield manufacturing plants across the country. It’s an exciting time to join the company!

SUMMER 2022 INTERNSHIP PROGRAM RECAP:

Crown welcomed 22 interns to our ranks in North America this summer. Now in its sixth year, our internship program has hosted 82 exceptional students in our facilities across the U.S. and Canada. During their 12 weeks with us, students gain hands-on experience by being embedded in our operations and working on multiple projects, which can range from process optimization and production planning to new line installations and line conversions.

As much our interns take from this program, we also benefit by learning from them. They are an invaluable resource to Crown each year, bringing insightful ideas and new perspectives to the table. That is why we remain committed to investing in and empowering our future leaders, providing them knowledge through the different duties and responsibilities that go along with working in the fast-paced manufacturing industry and real-world office environments. We are very grateful for our interns’ time at Crown each year and excited to see what they accomplish in the future!
