Do you know the garage doors torsion springs have limited life cycles? Residential torsion springs lasting around 10-16k cycles with commercial heavy duty ones 20-40k cycles. That's 7-10 years of usage. If you have a pair always ask the tach to change both when one will break. Is a matter of time till the second one will break and you'll pay twice the labor.

Any garage door automated by a motor should have a manual release. Can be the Manual Opening keyed lock or a small keyed Emergency Release lock.

In the picture I replaced the old Emergency Release lock with a new one, the owner lost his key and, with no other access inside when power went out a week ago, they called in a Locksmith. The damage... you can see... Top panel is teared and dented. $400 in damage. Why they needed access? The Electrical panel inside.

Don't let this happen to you, check if your garage door have one. Is just in case.

I fixed a garage door these days and I want to tell you the story so we can learn something.

Effect: cable out of pulley.
How: power outage, manual opening.
Cause: the door was manually lifted from the far left side and the guidance roller on the left fell off the rails.

What to check: torsion springs have to be equal and tightened, rollers if any are blocked or broken and check the ware, grease all hinges, check integrity and alignment, grease springs, grease rollers, check rails alignment.

How to avoid: in manual opening mode ALWAYS lift from the middle, NEVER from the sides. This way you'll let the door do the work through the torsion springs in a balanced set-up.🥰
