Our team members across the Stewart Companies family bring our commitment to community to life in meaningful ways. Today, weโre grateful to spotlight Ellington Churchill, Vice President of Administration at Lewis Contractors, whose passion for the environment and youth development guides his service to others.
Inspired by his mother, a fourth-grade science teacher, Ellington developed an early appreciation for the natural world. Today, he serves on the Boards of Visitors for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, as well as serving as a trustee of the Maryland Science Center. He also supports The Complete Player Youth Empowerment (TCP Youth Empowerment), which helps underserved youth in northern Anne Arundel County, Maryland, develop business and leadership skills.
For Ellington, one of the most rewarding parts of giving back is watching young people grow and begin to see themselves as future leaders. As he explains, โYou can just envision that one day they will be a leader.โ A recent highlight was helping introduce a group of TCP middle school students to construction through a visit to a Lewis Contractors project at the The Maryland School for the Blind. Students explored how a building comes together, tried on construction gear, and learned about potential careers. They also met students their own age at the school, creating an opportunity to connect and better understand one anotherโs experiences.
Grounded in his family and faith, Ellington encourages others to find a cause that reflects their own passions. โIf you want the world to be better, youโve got to get involved,โ he notes.
