As temperatures rise, so does the demand for electricity. During the summer months, energy use typically peaks in the late afternoon and early evening as people get home from work and air conditioners work harder to keep homes cool.

A friendly reminder that York Electric's summer peak hours are 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM.

When possible, try running appliances like washers, dryers and dishwashers outside of peak hours. Small changes in when you use energy can make a big difference.

By working together to reduce demand during peak times, we can help maintain reliable and affordable service for our members all summer long.

Extreme heat is settling across York Electric's service area, with temperatures expected to remain in the upper 90s and heat index values climbing even higher.

When temperatures soar, air conditioners have to work harder and run longer to keep homes comfortable, leading to increased energy use. If you're looking for ways to avoid unexpected energy costs, small adjustments can make a big difference. Closing blinds and curtains during the day, using ceiling fans wisely and limiting the use of heat-producing appliances during peak afternoon hours can help reduce the strain on your cooling system.

The tips below are simple ways to keep your home cooler, more energy efficient and your summer energy bills under control.

We appreciate our members doing their part, and as always, your co-op is here to serve you. Stay cool and stay safe.

Hurricane season is here, running from June 1st to November 30th. While forecasters are predicting a milder Atlantic hurricane season, now is still the time to prepare.

Even in years with a quieter forecast, it only takes one storm to cause significant damage and extended power outages. Take a few minutes to review your emergency plan, build your storm kit, and make sure your family is ready before severe weather threatens our area.
