The origin of a 'creator god' comes from ancient astronomy/astrology. In Plato's Timaeus, the words from the Egyptian priest to Solon that speak of the tale of Paethon state that these myths of the gods are of the declination of the bodies moving in the heavens... planets, stars, constellations.
The creator of various myths is the constellation Ophiuchus standing over the center of the milky way. Critias himself tells a rehashed version of creation, and just like any religious trope, he states 'this is the truth' repeatedly. If we take Critias = Creation, then Timaeus = the science of the Times, Plato's own Theory of Everything using philosophy and geometry. In Critias' tale the God that created Atlantis was Poseidon, God of the sea. A theme repeated in early traditions around the world the same as the flood mythos is this creator spawning from water.
In sumer and babylon, the enuma elis, the gods come from the mingling of the fresh and salt waters, Tiamat and Apsu, these waters being the northern and southern bands of the milky way. This myth later becomes borrowed in the middle east. Waters above falling, waters below rising, two overlapping triangles: the star of david of the jewish faith. The biblical changes it to god as a face above the waters. In egypt we have two separate myths, the first is that of Atum rising from the primordial waters/chaos, the second the tale of the bennu bird (Ophiuchus with wings made from the serpent he holds) and the primordial mound (again the milky way). Even in South American versions we have another similarity with the Inca: Viracocha rising from the WATERS, this time of lake titicaca, their earthly mirror version of the milky way.
Other gods were created for other constellations especially important are the ones used for telling time. In Egypt there were to sets, the Ennead and Ogdoad, zodiac and polar sets of constellations... Further for judeochristian biblical:
I am the alpha/omega, beginning/end meant of the zodiac calendar year, of a cycle. Ophiuchus is the 13th zodiac constellation, with Orion as its opposite, connected by the path of the milky way across the northern planisphere. 6000 years ago, at the dawn of civilization, and our records of religion Orion was where the vernal equinox sun rose signaling the new year. Precession has shifted it since and each zodiacal age gave rise to another prophet/herald: Orion was remembered as Abraham, Noah and Moses (both of whom were commonly depicted with horns) were of Ta**us and Aries, and Jesus was created for Pisces. The ages before become their biblical days of creation ending with Adam and Eve, the Gemini twins.
