Founded in 1925 by Jack Hynes and Jack Finnegan, Hynes Industries started as a steel service center in Youngstown, Ohio. One hundred years later, we are still here. Still growing. Still investing in the people and technology that will carry us into the next century.

Please join us in congratulating Robert Moe on being named President of Hynes Industries, effective Oct. 1.

Robert joined Hynes in 2019 as Chief Operating Officer. He now leads all operational functions at our facilities in Youngstown and Painesville, Ohio, and Kokomo, Ind., including production, quality and engineering. Rick Organ, previously President and CEO, continues as CEO.

"He's a strong leader with a real command of process," Rick said. "As we grow, it makes sense to put production, quality and engineering under one person, and I'm very confident Robert is the right person for that role."

Robert's path to Hynes isn't a typical one. He grew up in a family transportation business on an island off the west coast of Norway. He studied law in Oslo and earned a master's degree from ESCP Business School in Paris. He then spent nearly a decade as a management consultant on Wall Street, driving process improvement through advanced data analytics.

Robert says joining Hynes "felt like a return to my roots." We'd say he fits right in. Taking on the toughest projects for our customers is what we do.

Four years ago, roughly 5 to 7 million pounds of the material we process annually went into data centers. This year it's closer to 30 million. And growing.

That shift is part of a new The Business Journal - Youngstown Publishing Co. story on how local manufacturers are supporting the data center buildout. Our CEO, Rick Organ, explains what we make: the busways and busbars that distribute power, cabinets and the stringers that hold up the raised floors where cooling equipment runs.

The harder question is how you keep pace. New equipment takes 36 to 52 weeks to arrive. Our customers need us in a fraction of that. So we're redeploying assets, buying existing machines from around the globe and clearing a 70,000-square-foot bay in one of our facilities just for data center work.

That same speed is part of why Legrand named us a Rising Star Supplier of the Year. For them, we went from first conversation to first parts shipped in just six weeks.

Our momentum in this industry is real. We plan to add more than 50 people at our Youngstown plant by the end of 2026 to support this growing industry sector.

Over four decades, Mike has served in multiple leadership roles including Senior VP of Marketing and Sales and General Manager of the Roll Formed Products Division before stepping into his current role as Chief Procurement Officer.
