Some more window machining. This was not the original plan with this one, I had actually ordered an on size plate but made a mistake and grabbed a random piece of stock off the shelf to get it done rather than order new stock.

Leveling a machine solo?

Mount a GoPro on the level, watch the bubble on your phone, dial in adjustments without having to get up and down to check.

5-axis fillet, backside, one setup. Tab it. Done. No second op needed.

Not gonna lie, I’ve definitely sent it before, only to realize my WCS or part rotation in CAM was slightly off and the profile didn’t clean up right.

A quick low depth profile check goes a long way before you rough that part down to nothing.

Do you trust your CAMs simulation?

5 axis adds a lot of capability to a shop, but one of my favorite things it’s made incredibly easy is fully chamfering a part in the machine. Being able to rotate the part and hit chamfers from either side with an end mill has been a huge advantage.

Benefits of a home shop: the ability to keep running parts into the evening if and when needed. Get a notification when the cycle is complete, swap a part, and go right back to making dinner or whatever else is going on.

Someone will say I should have done these in a lathe, my response is, they are +/- home project whatever, the machine doesn’t care what the shape of the stock is.

We all I know I didn’t do the turning on these! That was Harry Totzke

I did the hard part, holes and counterbores. 😂
