After living through the experience of Hurricane Irma, and enduring for six months on solar energy at his home in Virgin Gorda, Lars Giersing researched a climate appropriate renewable energy solution, specifically the SmartFlower from Austria (seen behind him in the photo).

After looking into it, he realised that it is of huge advantage in hurricane-prone islands, as it folds up during storms but also every night, which reduces its wear and tear. It produces a lot of power for a small footprint, as it follows the path of the sun - so it has 100% capacity at all times. It is also phenomenal for people with small properties because it doesn't require being installed on the roof of any structure or home.

Lars and Jevone have decided to work together on their shared longer term vision for the BVI and for Virgin Gorda, which is to see more residences and large buildings use solar energy rather than import oil.
