Women in construction!

Imagine working super hard on a huge project, but your boss takes all the credit and becomes famous around the world. That is exactly what happened to the woman in this photo.

Her name was Marion Mahony Griffin, and she is one of the most important people in history that you have probably never heard of.

Back in 1895, Marion became the very first employee hired by the legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

She was a brilliant trail-blazer who became one of the first licensed female architects in the entire world.

While Frank Lloyd Wright got all the praise for his famous buildings, Marion was the secret genius behind the scenes.

Marion was an incredible artist. She created beautiful watercolor drawings of buildings that combined architecture with nature.

Her unique drawing style actually defined the look of the famous Prairie School architecture movement.

When people today look at old drawings of Frank Lloyd Wright houses, they are usually looking at Marion's artwork. She was the one who made his ideas look beautiful on paper so clients would buy them.

Frank Lloyd Wright had a massive ego and rarely gave Marion the credit she deserved. After working with him, Marion and her husband Walter Griffin went on to design Canberra, which is the capital city of Australia.

She was a global superstar of design, but history slowly forgot about her contributions.Marion passed away in 1961 in Chicago.

She was broke, and she was buried in Graceland Cemetery inside an unmarked grave. For over thirty years, thousands of people walked right past her final resting place without knowing a genius was buried there.

Thankfully, a group of historians raised money to finally give her a beautiful memorial plaque.
Next time you look at beautiful, modern architecture, remember Marion Mahony Griffin, the woman who helped draw our world.

This summer, Devon had the opportunity to intern with us at Continental Construction and Engineering, giving him an inside look at field operations and the inner workings of a local construction and engineering business. Devon found great value in exploring daily project site logistics, developing professional communication skills, and understanding the essential role collaborative design and building teams play in serving the territory.

Our family takes very seriously our responsibility to promote and grow the talent of our local youth.

Continental Construction and Engineering recognizes June as Men's Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental health is key to a successful team. Raise healthy boys to become balanced men!

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), men are nearly four times more likely to die by su***de than women. We can make a difference to our men of The Hive by helping them feel safe and advocating for their well being.

Mental health conditions can begin to develop in young children and adolescents. Because they’re still learning how to identify and talk about thoughts and emotions, their most obvious symptoms are behavioral. Symptoms in children and teens may include the following:

Changes in school performance
Excessive worry or anxiety, for instance fighting to avoid bed or school
Hyperactive behavior
Frequent nightmares
Frequent disobedience or aggression
Frequent temper tantrums
The NAMI Teen and Young Adult Helpline can be contacted by texting "Friend" to 62640, or you can call at 1-800-950-NAMI (6264). In case of an emergency, call 911 or the Su***de Lifeline at 988
