*** 5 TIPS: KEEPING YOUR BATTERY HEALTHY IN THE HEAT ***

Riding in hot weather can be tough on the battery, as high temperatures accelerate chemical reactions and can lead to faster discharge or even issues like swelling.
Here are some Tips for keeping your powersport battery in top shape during the heat:

1. The "Cool Down" Rule
Avoid charging your battery immediately after a long ride. When you’ve been out in the heat, the battery is already at an elevated temperature. Plucking it into a charger right away can lead to overheating. Give it about 30–60 minutes to return to room temperature before connecting a maintainer or charger.

2. Park Smart
It sounds simple, but shade or cool area is your battery's best friend.

3. Check for "Swell" and Corrosion
Visual Inspection: Periodically check the battery casing for any signs of bulging or "swelling."
Terminal Cleaning: High temperatures can also accelerate corrosion at the terminals. Ensure the connections are tight and clean; a light coating of terminal grease can help prevent the white, crusty buildup that blocks current.

4. Monitor Your Voltage
The "self-discharge" rate of a battery increases as the mercury rises. If your bike has a built-in voltmeter, keep an eye on it. A healthy battery should sit around 12.6V to 12.8V when the engine is off. If it consistently dips below 12.4V, it’s time for a top-up charge.

5. Optimize Your Charging
Use a Smart Charger: If you aren't riding daily, use a smart maintainer that features temperature compensation. These chargers automatically adjust the charging voltage based on the ambient heat to prevent overcharging.
