CASE STUDY: MAIN ENGINE REMOTE CONTROL SYSTEM FAILURE
A 3,000 DWT LPG carrier lost maneuverability while berthing at MIPEC Gas Terminal due to a failure in the Main Engine Remote Control System. MTB engineers quickly identified the root cause, restored the system, and returned the vessel to service. A similar failure occurred several months later, highlighting the importance of inspecting the entire remote control system rather than repairing only the failed component. This case study presents the failure analysis, repair process, and MTB's recommendations for preventive maintenance to improve system reliability and ensure safe vessel operation.
