PI WORKS SAFETY NOTICE ⚠️

🌋At approximately 7:30 AM on Saturday 28/August/2026, ashfall associated with Ambae Island’s volcanic activity was experienced across North Pentecost, resulting in contamination of local water sources and a noticeable sulphur-like odour in the air.

😷 Exposure to volcanic ash may pose health risks, including eye irritation, redness and watering; nasal and throat irritation; coughing, breathing difficulties and other respiratory discomfort; skin irritation/itching; and headaches.

📢 Given these potential health risks, our construction activities for the Pentecost RWHS Packages 1 & 2 may be temporarily placed on hold, where relevant and necessary, pending professional health and environmental advice and confirmation that conditions are safe for workers to resume.

Department of Water Resources-Vanuatu RWHS Pentecost Project - Package 1 & 2 🚰

PI WORKS STAGE 3 - FOUNDATION CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES, STAGE 4 - SHELTER ER****ON ACCORDING TO APPROVED PLANS, STAGE 5 - ROOF INSTALLATION ENSURING PROPER PITCH FOR OPTIMAL COLLECTION, STAGE 6 - CONSTRUCTION OF THE TANK BASE FOLLOWED BY TANK PLACEMENT AND CONNECTION

👷‍♂️🔨 For the 24 project sites in North Pentecost, forming part of the 45 total project sites across Pentecost Island, construction has been completed on eight (8) shelters within one (1) month period at Labwaru, Lamoru, Lagatava, Anlulu, Abwatvenue, Angerena, Aviriana, and Amangao.

🚰 The respective 10,200-litre Rota Tanks have been installed, and soak pits have been constructed at each site. The works are currently awaiting the connection of gutters and downpipes, pending the Client's authorization and supply of the new gutter materials.

🔖 Previously, the ongoing El Niño period created challenges in sourcing sufficient water for construction activities. Nevertheless, works continued to progress. More recently, heavy rainfall has slightly affected site activities and temporarily slowed progress. However, the project remains of quality workmanship & importantly within the planned construction schedule - Work E Mas Kohed!

🫆 On Pentecost island, we came across this indigenous & unique engineering design & build where local traditional expertise and wisdom is passed down from one generation to the next!

🌳 In North Pentecost a "Ghamali" is being built at Arasa Village (Abwatuntora), North Pentecost. The fittings and connections are all of local & traditional availability, with only the use of hardware nails - such designs have stood up against all earthquakes & cyclones! 💥

PI WORKS STAGE 2 - MOBILIZATION & DISTRIBUTION OF MATERIALS

🪸🪨 For the 24 project sites of North Pentecost with a total of 45 sites for Pentecost Island, all communities have distributed sand & coral to their respective sites.

🔖 We have personally witnessed first-hand on site how isolated communities have carried 30kg of wet sand & coral over 1km of steep and wet terrains to construction sites - work e mas kohed!

🔖 All locations of RWH shelters & Tanks have been finalized and agreed upon with initial setting out of works preparation for the major construction works!

For the 24 project sites of North Pentecost with a total of 45 sites for Pentecost Island, we have utilized all local transportation services to assist us in distributing all construction materials from the Port of Loltong to each respective sites inland - existing road conditions of Pentecost always brings out the A game in all! As the saying goes "Pentecost, the Land of Land Cruisers!" 🔖

The 24 project sites for North Pentecost are as follows: Lamoru, Lagatava, Labwaru, Abwatvenue, Angerena, Amangao, Aviriana, Anlulu, Labuanga , Abwarohi, Atangurua Top, Atangurua Bottom, Atangurua Center, Lavanutagaro, Aliganvanua, Atanmea, Lolmison, Label, Avanguresi, Navenul, Abwalulua, Lolsarivuana, Lagarobwaia, Atalabua

✅️ WATER TANKS: For the total 45 no. x 10,000Ltr water tanks at the Santo Rotomould Vanuatu Ltd & Fiberglass Vanuatu & Pacific Polytanks - 24 water tanks for North Pentecost, only 10 tanks have been shipped to Loltong and distributed onsite. The remaining 14 await shipment to Loltong for complete distribution onsite.

✅️CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS: Building construction materials for the respective 24 sites have been shipped to Loltong and distributed onsite. Remaining materials await shipment to Loltong for complete distribution onsite.
