Over the past two days, we were honoured to officially hand over the GPVURP: Construction of Multipurpose Gender Responsive Emergency Shelters Project in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

Funded by the Asian Development Bank programme, the project involved the construction of three two-storey steel-structure emergency shelters in Korman, Freswota and Seaside communities.

✨ Project Highlights:
🏒 3 multipurpose emergency shelters
πŸ“ 728㎑ building area for each facility
🌳 Nearly 9,000㎑ of external works in total
πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ Capacity to accommodate up to 696 people simultaneously
πŸ’‘ Complete indoor and outdoor facilities, including water and power installation, interior fit-out, furniture and equipment procurement, and community training programmes.

The completion and commissioning of these facilities will significantly enhance the disaster preparedness and emergency response capacity of Port Vila communities, improve public services, safeguard lives and property, and contribute to the sustainable development and resilience of Vanuatu. 🌏🀝

Yesterday, we proudly celebrated the commencement of the Design and Construction of Norsup Airport to Accommodate ATR 72-600 Project on Island, marking an important milestone in the development of Vanuatu’s transport infrastructure. πŸšœπŸ—οΈ

The project will upgrade the existing Norsup Airport to meet 3C airport standards, allowing the safe operation of ATR72-600 aircraft. Designed in accordance with Australian Standards and international civil aviation requirements, the project includes:

βœ… Upgrading the existing 960m runway to a new 1,315m Γ— 30m runway
βœ… Construction of a 900m temporary runway
βœ… Construction of a new 1,228mΒ² passenger terminal building 🏒
βœ… Installation of airfield lighting and supporting facilities πŸ’‘
βœ… Establishment of an asphalt batching plant βš™οΈ
βœ… Placement and compaction of runway base materials 🚧
βœ… Laying of approximately 59,990mΒ² of asphalt concrete pavement πŸ›£οΈ

πŸ’° Funded by the Government of Vanuatu, this project will significantly improve airport operations and aviation services, making travel safer, more efficient, and more reliable for local communities and visitors alike.

🌴 Once completed, the upgraded airport will strengthen connectivity between Malekula, Port Vila, and surrounding islands, supporting tourism, trade, investment, and job creation. It will also improve access to essential services and enhance disaster preparedness and emergency response capabilities across the region.
