Glasgow based artist Charles MacDonald—Outlandia AIR April 2024—has been working with infinitely reflecting materials and mechanical irises as a way of bringing the outside in. He explained to Nevis Radio how he is still at the "tinkering stage" of his idea, working within the confines of the Outlandia studio, but free from the pressure of definitive outcomes. As a graphic document of his thinking and doing, he has been developing a zine to express the conceptual and philosophical ambitions behind his project. https://outlandia.com/

’Approach to the Cabin.’
We found that the cabin was known to people in the area - visitors and locals alike. They were intrigued as to what was inside - within this unknown space fantastical and wonderful things could be imagined. The cabin had a dreamlike quality full of potential and imaginings.

I can take you. I’ve always wanted to see what’s inside, I’ve never seen it.
I know the way but getting inside is another matter.
I just haven’t been inside, but I know everything about it.

I imagine there’s water, running water, some way of cooking?
I imagine there’s a library of beautiful and unimaginable books inside.
I imagine there’s carvings carved by every passer by, every acolyte, every visitor.

They will line the walls inside.
Oh inside.
I imagine it’s unimaginable.
A place to step out of the cold, a spot to quell the madness.

It’s a steep hill, mind........................................................
