Starship has successfully performed its orbital insertion burn and entered Earth orbit for the first time during SpaceX’s ongoing Flight 14 mission.

After separating from the Super Heavy booster, the upper stage continued its ascent before firing its engines to increase its speed and place itself into a stable orbit around Earth.

This marks a major milestone for the Starship program, as the vehicle has now demonstrated its ability to reach orbit following launch.

The mission is still ongoing, with Starship expected to carry out additional objectives before completing its planned flight.

Astronomers from Harvard and the University of Oregon have reported the first direct detection of auroral radio emission from an exoplanet.

Using the MeerKAT radio telescope in South Africa, they detected radio signals originating from the giant exoplanet Beta Pictoris b, about 63 light-years away.

The emission is believed to be produced by auroral processes driven by the planet’s magnetic field.

The detection provides direct evidence that Beta Pictoris b has a strong magnetic field and could help scientists better understand magnetic environments around giant exoplanets.

Elon Musk has predicted that the world could have at least 1 billion humanoid robots within 10 years, potentially reaching 10 billion in 15 years and 100 billion in 20 years.

In a September 23, 2026 interview with CCTV Finance, Musk said humanoid robots could eventually handle a wide range of tasks, from childcare and elder care to other forms of work.

He also suggested that one person could control hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of physical robots and digital AI agents, dramatically increasing individual productivity.

Musk further predicted a future of universal high income, where money could become less significant.

During the same interview, he described Chinese AI models as performing extremely well in terms of output per unit of computing power and said China could close its computing-power gap through advances in chip manufacturing and lithography.

SpaceX is preparing Starship Flight 14 for its first attempt to place the spacecraft into Earth orbit.

The previous 13 Starship test flights reached space but followed suborbital trajectories, meaning they did not complete an orbit around Earth.

Flight 14 is planned to take Starship to about 275 kilometers above Earth and complete roughly six orbits during a mission lasting around 10 hours.

The spacecraft is also expected to deploy 26 next-generation Starlink V3 satellites, making this the first planned operational deployment of these satellites from Starship.

After completing its orbital mission, Starship is planned to perform a controlled reentry and splash down in the Pacific Ocean, while the Super Heavy booster will attempt a separate landing in the Gulf.

China is now leading the global humanoid robot market by a wide margin.

In the first half of 2026, Chinese manufacturers accounted for more than 97% of global humanoid robot shipments.

Around 19,100 humanoid robots were shipped worldwide during this period, more than triple the number shipped in the same period last year.

AgiBot and Unitree were the two largest suppliers, shipping about 8,400 and 5,900 robots respectively, while other Chinese companies are also expanding production.

The figures highlight China’s strong position in humanoid robot manufacturing and commercialization, although the number of robots performing commercially productive work remains relatively small.

A startup called Stardust Solutions is developing a technology designed to temporarily cool Earth by reflecting sunlight back into space.

The company is working on engineered reflective particles that could be released into the stratosphere, a layer of the atmosphere above most clouds and weather.

These particles could scatter or reflect a small amount of incoming sunlight, reducing the solar energy reaching Earth’s surface.

The approach is known as stratospheric aerosol injection, a form of solar geoengineering.

Unlike carbon removal, this method would not remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Instead, it could potentially offset some warming caused by greenhouse gases.

However, scientists are studying possible risks, including changes to rainfall patterns, effects on monsoons and impacts on the ozone layer.

Large-scale deployment has not been demonstrated, and the technology remains experimental and subject to scientific debate.

A new factory in China can build one humanoid robot every 10 minutes, highlighting the growing scale of humanoid robot manufacturing.

China’s UBTECH has started operations at a new smart factory in Liuzhou, Guangxi, dedicated to the large scale production of industrial humanoid robots.

The 14,000 square meter facility is designed to produce more than 10,000 humanoid robots annually, significantly expanding the company’s manufacturing capacity.

Its production line is designed around a 10 minute production cadence, although this refers to the planned production rate rather than confirmed continuous output.

The factory will primarily produce UBTECH’s Walker S and Cruzr series, while robots and automated vehicles are also used for material handling and transportation inside the facility.

NASA is preparing to send a nuclear-powered rotorcraft to Titan, Saturn’s largest moon.

The aircraft will fly through Titan’s thick atmosphere and explore multiple locations across its surface.

It will use a radioisotope power system to generate electricity and heat during the mission.

Scientists will study Titan’s organic chemistry, geology, and complex surface environments.

The mission could provide important clues about the chemistry that existed before life emerged on Earth.

Elon Musk has reiterated his long-standing concerns about artificial general intelligence (AGI), saying its risks could be far greater than those posed by nuclear weapons.

On September 13, 2026, Musk reposted on X his April 2023 statement describing AGI as a technology with an unprecedented level of risk, adding, “I’ve been sounding the alarm on AI for a long time.”

Musk has raised similar concerns since at least 2014, warning about the potential dangers of advanced AI.

His latest post comes amid renewed debate over whether the development of increasingly capable AI systems should be slowed to address safety risks.

Chinese-led researchers have developed experimental contact lenses that allow humans to detect near-infrared light, which is normally invisible to the human eye.

The lenses contain rare-earth nanoparticles that convert near-infrared light into visible light that the wearer can perceive.

Tests showed that volunteers could detect infrared signals even with their eyes closed, as some infrared wavelengths can pass through the eyelids.

The technology does not provide normal vision in complete darkness and is not an AI-powered lens. The research was published in Cell in 2025.
