Someone folks out in the Cannabis community are spreading incorrect direction from the DCC. I had a client call the other day and said that he was told he didn’t have to put a METRC tag on each plant, just have the tags for each plant in a visible location for the subject greenhouse.

I was out on a DCC unannounced inspection today for a client and the client got a violation by DCC for not having each plant tagged, he had the tags at the front of each greenhouse. My client was told by a county official that the State only requires tags visible at the front of the greenhouse, not on each plant and that incorrect direction got him a violation.

DCC is considering a rule change so as not to force cultivators to tag each plant, but it hasn’t been passed yet. Supposedly they said that it’s possible an email will be coming out stating that fact.

Ok, this is a serious PSA for Cannabis cultivators in Humboldt County. As of January 1, 2026, generators are not allowed to be used for cultivating Cannabis. This is the weaponization of regulations against Cannabis cultivators in Humboldt County and will kill most Cannabis cultivation in the County. Pretty stupid since a mushroom farm I am working on can use all the generators for cultivation that their heart desires. This applies to farms under both the 1.0 and 2.0. Ordinance. A client had a surprise inspection with no notice given by CDFW, County, and DCC. I believe this is going to now be the modus operandi of the County and State. The cultivation is mixed light, and power was provided entirely by generators. The County suspended the permit for 30 days to correct the generator violation that was observed.

Options only include grid power, or solar power, both of which are financially non-workable solutions given the current market value of Cannabis per pound. What will most likely be allowed are power banks for power requirements run off batteries and the batteries can be charged off-site or on-site from grid power or solar power. Regardless, this will be making an additional financial hardship being placed on small businesses that are already struggling.

I feel this is government t overreach because it singles out only Cannabis cultivation and no other type of rural farming applications. Who knows maybe a class action suite brought by the Humboldt Growers Alliance can get this injustice reversed. This is nothing more than a small group of people who have authority that is opposed to Cannabis cultivation to shut it all down regardless the will of the voters.
