In 2018, our team at DEKA Fabrication built a piece for artist Miriam Klein Stahl. It is called "We Can Do It." The sculpture honors the Rosie the Riveter women who worked in the Richmond shipyards during World War II. Today we honor the memory of Jeanne Gibson. She was the face of all of the Rosie the Riveters. She died on July 30, 2026, at the age of 100. Today we honor her legacy and the generation of women she represented.
The piece is stainless steel, corten, and powder coated steel. It shows a riveter and a welder at work. This was a turning point for women in skilled trades. It was also a moment when people of every background worked side by side.
In Miriam's words: "My hope is that when people see this sculpture they can see themselves in the workers, or see someone in their community or family. To honor the labor of the Rosies, I wanted the figures in my sculpture to be shown in the act of working, with dignity, focus, and pride."
