📣 Project Completion – NSW
We’re proud to announce the successful completion of the new Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit at Broken Hill Hospital, delivered as part of the NSW Government’s $700 million Statewide Mental Health Infrastructure Program.
The new unit brings a much-needed expansion of mental health services to the region, providing modern, purpose-built facilities to support patients, families and clinicians. Designed in consultation with clinicians, community representatives and people with lived experience of mental illness, the unit features artwork and landscaping inspired by Aboriginal culture and the surrounding landscape, creating an environment that promotes healing, wellbeing and connection to place.
These works follow Barpa’s $12 million upgrade of Broken Hill Hospital’s Emergency Department, further strengthening healthcare services for the region. The ED has been expanded and fully refurbished to improve patient flow and enhance clinical functionality featuring new treatment bays, staff areas and clinical back-of-house spaces. Local artwork has also been integrated into the paediatric bay, interview room and new consult rooms, helping create a supportive and culturally responsive environment for patients, visitors and staff.
These projects demonstrate Barpa’s growing national Health capability to deliver technically complex, operationally sensitive healthcare facilities—often within live environments—while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, cultural engagement and community outcomes.
👏 Thank you to our project team, subcontractors and partners for their commitment and professionalism in delivering this important project.
