Solar Light for Africa in a nonprofit Christian organization based in Melbourne, Florida, that is dedicated to providing solar energy systems to the people of Africa. We go to the most remote parts of Uganda and provide electricity to those who would otherwise not receive it. Through this service, people can be more productive, gaining access to television and the Internet. We are currently seeking donations from people in the US and Canada.

One of the projects we’ve been honored to support in Uganda is the Mausilita Children’s Village.
Sometimes, when we step onto a site during a scouting visit, we immediately feel, “This is a place we need to return to.” Mausilita is one of those places.

Mausilita Children’s Village provides safety and stability for children rescued from life on the streets. Some have no family; others were abducted or forced into begging. At MCV, they receive a loving home, consistent care, and the stability they desperately need. Social workers are actively involved, working to reunite children with their families whenever possible.

In previous years, we installed solar security lights around the compound to improve safety, along with solar power and lighting in two children’s dormitories and a staff building. These changes have already transformed daily life for the children and staff.

In 2026, we hope to return to continue this important work—this time by installing solar lighting for a newly refurbished dormitory and the dining hall.

Your donation this Giving Tuesday will help us reach our goal of funding two more solar systems—and will directly bring light, safety, and hope into these children’s lives.

Thank you for helping us make a lasting impact.

Our second installation of the summer took us to Rwanda Health Center III in Bwongyera, where we were warmly welcomed by the Member of Parliament, Honorable Josyline Kamateneti, along with several clinic staff members. Upon arrival, we learned that the maternity clinic already had solar power but required replacement batteries, which unfortunately we did not have available. Having learned the importance of flexibility, we quickly shifted our plans and decided to install lighting for the staff quarters instead.

We were introduced to the midwife, Ankunda Kemigisha, who graciously gave us a tour of the facility before leading us to the staff quarters. She expressed profound gratitude, as the area has no electricity and she had long struggled with working in darkness. In addition to the installation, we were able to gift her a solar lantern to help her safely move across the field at night when traveling between her home and the clinic.

We also installed solar security lights, which will serve as a guiding beacon for women making their way to the clinic during the night.

We arrived on Friday afternoon and began our journey early Saturday morning to Ntungamo, located in southwestern Uganda. After the customary stop at the Equator, we continued driving south.
We recently returned from Uganda where we were able to install solar power on a couple schools and a maternity clinic, here is a bit of a recap on our journey. We left Kampala early Saturday morning, and, our destination was St. John the Baptist Secondary School in Rwembogo. Although we arrived much later than expected, we were warmly welcomed by all the students and their marching band, who led us to the building where we would be installing solar power.

The girls’ dormitory had been destroyed in a windstorm, and the students had been living in a few classrooms. The priest who oversees the school arrived shortly after the storm and immediately began working to secure a new dormitory for the girls. Remarkably, the priest and the students made all the bricks for the new dorm themselves. While there are still a few final touches to complete, the addition of lighting means the girls will be able to move in very soon.

They were an incredibly grateful group. The priest had told me upon our arrival that the students would be especially excited to see Eric and me, as many of them had never seen a white person before. We had to be resourceful to complete the installation in the dark, but the real joy came when the lights turned on and the girls gathered to celebrate. They sang a few songs and thanked us repeatedly.

As we prepared to board the bus to leave, two girls came to the door and asked if they could shake my hand. It had been a long day, but we felt truly blessed to have had the opportunity to bring light and hope to this school.
