We will offer superior outcomes and benefits to our clients, by providing innovative solutions with an unrivalled level of support. OUR STORY
Our founder George Baird, with the support of his wife Shaneen Baird, established George’s Front End Loader Hire in 1994 with 2 loaders that he had purchased from another business man. This was back in the day when footy shorts were part of the standard rail
worker uniform. George (my father) had no experience operating Front End Loaders but took it upon himself to learn on the job. Quite a few of the QR bosses we work with today will tell stories of working with George in the early days. They say he was one of the worst operators. He went on to build a successful business with a fleet of approximately 20 machines and established major customers in the Rail, Recycling and general Materials handling sectors in SEQ. Upon George’s sudden passing in 2009,, a succession plan was put into place and in 2011 George’s Loader Hire Pty Ltd was established by Cameron Baird and Kelly Cooke, George’s son and daughter. The 2011 floods were a test for the new Directors with premises at Willawong being completely inundated with water to the window sills in the office. Cameron and Kelly have grown the business from solid foundations to become one of the leading plant and equipment suppliers to Queensland Rail in SEQ. Our operators are highly skilled and our equipment and attachments are built for purpose at our workshop in Willawong. EXPERIENCE
Since George’s passing GLH has upgraded their Willawong maintenance facility with construction of a state of the art 4 bay workshop, hard stand and wash down facility, along with Quality Asssurance certification to AS9001 and Health & Safety AS4801. George’s Loader Hire can proudly claim to have played a major part in every rail construction project in Queensland in the last ten years including Corinda to Darra, Darra to Richlands, Richlands to Springfield, Cavill Ridge, Middlemount, Moreton Bay Rail – Petrie to Redcliffe, the SEQ Stabling Yard project and Gold Coast Light Rail. We are engaged on an on-going basis to perform general rail maintenance tasks such as re-sleepering, refurbishments, re-railing, level crossings, services, component changes, drainage, undercutting. Our 13 tonne modified and height limited Hitachi Undercutter was the first on-line in the South East network and our purpose built tampers have tamped thousands and thousands of hours.
