Legend has it that the Weaver Girl was a celestial maiden of extraordinary skill who spent her days weaving the magnificent, colorful clouds that adorn the sky. She descended to the mortal realm, fell in love with the Cowherd, and lived a life of farming and weaving together. However, bound by celestial laws, they were separated by the Heavenly River; only on Qixi—when magpies formed a bridge across the expanse—could they meet from afar.
