CMA CGM’s Senior Vice President Visits to Aden Container Terminal

27 May 2025 – The management of the Port of Aden and Aden Container Terminal welcomed the visit of the Senior Vice President of the Middle East region of the French shipping company CMA CGM to Aden Container Terminal.
Mr. Aref Hassan Al-Shaabi, General Manager of Aden Container Terminal, and Eng. Abdulrab Al-Khulaqi, Deputy CEO of the Yemen Gulf of Aden Ports Corporation, received the delegation accompanied by Mr. Fadhl Al-Hujeili, Deputy General Manager of the terminal, and a number of department heads from Aden Container Terminal.
The visiting delegation was headed by Mr. JESPER STENBAK, Senior Vice President of Middle East region, accompanied by Mr. MOUNIR SLEIMAN, Managing Director of CMA CGM’s headquarter in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Mr. HOCINE MOURCHID, Political counselor to the French Embassy in the Republic of Yemen.
Also in attendance were the local agent of CMA CGM, Mr. Mohammed Madhkour, Executive Director of Al Halal Shipping Company, Mr. Abdulwali, Coordination Manager, along with Mr. Mohammed Al-Shaabi, General Manager of Al Halal Shipping’s Aden office, Mr. Osama Al-Barzi, Deputy Branch Manager, and several department heads from Al Halal’s Aden branch.
Mr. Aref Al-Shaabi welcomed the visiting delegation to the container terminal, describing the visit as a significant commercial milestone in the history of bilateral relations between Aden Container Terminal and CMA CGM. He noted that the relationship dates back to even before the terminal began operations in 1999.
Eng. Abdulrab also welcomed the distinguished guests, emphasizing the importance of the visit in strengthening and further developing the partnership between the Port of Aden and the French company CMA CGM.
The delegation watched promotional films showcasing the activities and services of Aden Container Terminal, particularly its support for key clients including CMA CGM, while highlighting the Port of Aden’s strategic role as a maritime gateway to the Republic of Yemen.
Following the video presentation, discussions were held regarding CMA CGM’s future plans and the potential to expand its presence at the Port of Aden and to take greater advantage of the terminal’s diverse services.
The visit included a site tour, during which the delegation boarded one of the CMA CGM vessels berthed at the terminal. They met with the captain of the MV/AFRICA SUN and welcomed him on behalf of the port and CMA CGM. The captain shared his impressions of the services provided, expressing his appreciation for the cooperation and warm reception upon arrival, as well as during the discharging and loading operations.
At the conclusion of the visit, Eng. Abdulrab Al-Khulaqi presented a commemorative plaque from Aden Container Terminal to Mr. JESPER, while Mr. Aref Al-Shaabi also presented a similar token to Mr. MOUNIR.

MV ISTANBUL BRIDGE Arrives from China to Aden,,,

May 1, 2025 – The vessel ISTANBUL BRIDGE, approximately 300 meters in length and operated by the Chinese shipping line SEA LEGEND, berthed today at the Aden Container Terminal. This marks a continued strengthening of the Chinese line’s presence and its direct connection between Chinese ports and the Port of Aden.
The Chinese company has further solidified its position at the Port of Aden by reducing transit times between Chinese ports and Aden through regular weekly direct sailings, positively contributing to lower sea freight rates.
In turn, the Port of Aden management welcomed the ISTANBUL BRIDGE, reaffirming the terminal’s readiness and capability to efficiently handle all types of container vessels.

Visit of Senior Students from the Higher Military Academy to the Port of Aden

April 17, 2025 – A group of senior students from the Higher Military Academy conducted a field visit to the Port of Aden, accompanied by Brigadier General Jamal Dayan, Director of Free Zone Police Security, and Mr. Mohsen Qahtan, Director General of Free Zone Customs.

The visit was carried out under the directives of Dr. Mohamed Alawi Amzerbah, Chairman of the Board of Aden Ports Development Company, and Mr. Aref Al-Shaabi, General Manager of the Container Terminal. The visitors were welcomed and guided by the Commercial Manager, Security Manager, Safety Manager, and Operations Manager of Aden Container Terminal.

The visit included a tour of the container terminal berth, during which the guests were briefed on the terminal’s operations and its vital role in promoting trade and services in Aden and across other governorates of the Republic.

The visitors engaged with the terminal officials by raising various questions, which were answered in detail, highlighting the strategic importance of container activities in global maritime transport and their contribution to supporting supply chains.

At the end of the visit, the delegation expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the management of the Port of Aden and the Aden Container Terminal for the comprehensive briefing and the valuable opportunity to explore the port’s operations and its wide range of services.

H.E. Transport Minister Chairs Meeting at Aden Port's Container Terminal,,,

22 January 2025 - His Excellency Dr. Abdul Salam Hameed, the Minister of Transport, chaired a meeting today at the Aden Port’s Container Terminal, attended by Captain Ali Al-Subhi, the under secretary of Minister of Transport. Dr. Mohammed Alawi Amzerbah, the Chairman executive of the Port of Aden and Chairman of the Aden Port Development Company has welcomed the visit of the MOT and his accompany to the Port of Aden
The visit was also attended by Mr. Abdulhakim Al-Qubati, Head of Customs authority, Mr. Mohsen Qahtan, General Manager of the Free Zone Customs, and Brigadier Jamal Dayan, General Manager of the Free Zone Police. The meeting included several representatives from shipping lines, represented by the President and Vice President of the Shipping Chamber.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister of Transport welcomed all attendees, appreciating the effective role of the service system in the Port of Aden, and expressing his gratitude to the leadership of the Port of Aden for their efforts in improving operational and service performance, as evidenced by the appreciation and gratitude received from the shipping agents and global shipping companies operating in the Port Aden.
Dr. Mohammed Alawi Amzerbah thanked the Minister for his visit and support, highlighting the proactive steps taken by the Minister in transferring security inspection activities to the Port of Aden, abolishing pre-permits for importing certain types of cargo, and the numerous efforts to facilitate commercial movement through the Port of Aden.
The Minister listened to the ongoing issues and future plans to facilitate procedures that will support the next phase of activity, expected to see steady growth, especially given the port's strategic location on global trade routes.
The Customs Authority discussed the opening of several buildings and customs outlets at Port of Aden, which will facilitate trade movement and aim towards implementing single-window procedures to ease trade and streamline processes.
Brigadier Jamal Dayan, General Manager of the Free Zone Police, outlined the plans and field procedures carried out by the Free Zone Police to ensure security and readiness without interfering with the fluidity of commercial and service movements in the Port of Aden and the Free Zone Customs.
The Minister also heard from representatives of the Shipping Chamber, who expressed their deep gratitude for the opportunity of direct engagement and appreciated the management of Port of Aden for supporting ongoing improvement plans and the notable enhancement in service indicators at the port of Aden, encouraging shipping lines to engage with the Port of Aden given its capabilities.
Following the discussions, the Minister conducted an inspection tour of the container terminal yard and received explanations from Dr. Amzerbah about the service and commercial activities at the port.

Launch of China United's Maiden call to the Port of Aden,,,
1 November 2024 – China United Shipping has launched its inaugural voyage to Aden Container Terminal, establishing direct routes between Port of Aden and ports in China and the Red Sea. This makes China United the fourth major carrier this year to initiate direct service to Aden, connecting it with key ports in Southeast Asia, China, the Arabian Gulf, and the Red Sea.
Direct routes by Chinese shipping companies to Aden have contributed to lowering sea freight costs by reducing transit times and operational expenses.
The management of Aden Ports Development Company, represented by Chairman Dr. Mohammed Amzerba and Mr. Aref Al-Shabi, General Manager of the Container Terminal, welcomed China United to the roster of shipping lines now serving the Port of Aden.
