Nirex Empowers South African Youth Through Skills, Sales and Entrepreneurship
As South Africa continues to face high youth unemployment and limited access to practical workplace experience, Nirex Signs & Tech is investing in a solution built around skills development, entrepreneurship and meaningful economic participation.
Through the Nirex Academy and the Nirex Sales Excellence Programme, the company is helping young South Africans gain practical knowledge, develop income-generating skills and access opportunities within the signage, printing, branding and technology industries.
Turning Training into Opportunity
Nirex Academy was established to bridge the gap between theoretical education and the practical skills required in the workplace.
The Academy provides structured training in areas such as:
- Graphic design and visual communication
- Branding and brand consistency
- Large-format printing
- Printer and cutting-plotter operation
- Vinyl application
- Sublimation printing
- Signage production
- Pricing and quotation preparation
- Customer service
- Sales and entrepreneurship
Participants are introduced to the machinery, materials and production processes used by signage and printing businesses. These include eco-solvent printers, cutting plotters, heat presses and sublimation systems.
This practical exposure helps learners understand how commercial products such as signs, banners, branded clothing, vehicle graphics, labels, promotional products and safety signs are designed and produced.
The Academyβs structured learning material also covers product knowledge, colour psychology, typography, layout, brand consistency, signage visibility and practical brand-development projects.
By combining technical knowledge with hands-on experience, Nirex Academy is preparing young people for employment, entrepreneurship and the realities of the modern workplace.
Creating Opportunities Through Sales
The Nirex Sales Excellence Programme provides an additional pathway into the industry, particularly for young people who may not have the capital to purchase printing machinery or establish their own production facilities.
The programme is open to young people between the ages of 18 and 35, including:
- Unemployed youth
- Students
- Aspiring entrepreneurs
- Sales representatives
- Marketers
- Side-hustlers
- Young people seeking practical business experience
No previous signage or printing experience is required.
Participants are trained to understand signage products, identify potential customers, recognise business branding needs, gather the correct information for quotations and assist customers throughout the sales process.
Practical Sales and Business Training
The Sales Excellence Programme covers:
- Signage products and materials
- Calculating prices using square metres and running metres
- Preparing accurate customer quotations
- Identifying business branding opportunities
- Lead generation and customer prospecting
- Professional communication
- Sales presentations
- Customer follow-ups
- Customer service
- Practical signage and printing processes
Participants can earn a 10% commission on successfully paid and completed signage jobs. This creates an opportunity for young people to generate income while developing genuine sales, marketing and business-development experience.
The programme enables participants to enter the signage industry without immediately carrying the cost of machinery, premises, materials or production employees.
Nirex provides the production infrastructure, technical support and industry training, while participants focus on identifying opportunities, finding customers and assisting them with suitable branding solutions.
Learning Through Practical Experience
The programme goes beyond classroom instruction.
Team A participants have already received practical exposure to vinyl application and sublimation printing. During these sessions, they worked with actual materials, produced ABS-board signs and sublimated personalised mouse pads.
This hands-on experience helps participants understand the complete production journeyβfrom receiving a customerβs request and preparing a quotation to designing, producing and delivering the finished product.
Practical knowledge also gives participants greater confidence when explaining products, recommending solutions and communicating with potential customers.
Participants have received additional training in signage calculations, pricing and quotation preparation.
A structured weekly reporting system encourages participants to document:
- New leads
- Customer interactions
- Follow-ups
- Sales activities
- Supporting evidence
- Challenges experienced
- Assistance required
- Successfully completed and paid jobs
This system promotes accountability, consistency and the professional working habits required to succeed in sales, employment or entrepreneurship.
Building Pathways into Employment and Business
The impact of the Nirex Academy and Sales Excellence Programme extends beyond short-term training.
Participants are assessed according to attendance, assignment performance, product knowledge, communication, lead generation, follow-up, professionalism and overall sales potential.
Those who perform well may continue developing as commission-based signage sales representatives and later progress into printer, equipment and technology sales.
The technical and creative skills offered through Nirex Academy can also support career opportunities in:
- Graphic design
- Machine operation
- Print production
- Signage manufacturing
- Vinyl application
- Sublimation printing
- Marketing
- Customer service
- Sales and business development
Some participants may use their experience to secure employment, while others may establish independent sales networks, creative services or small branding businesses.
In both cases, the programmes help young people progress from being job seekers to becoming skilled workers, sales professionals and potential business owners.
Strengthening the Local Economy
Every signage project creates economic activity across a wider value chain.
A single project may require the services of a salesperson, graphic designer, machine operator, print finisher, installer, courier and material supplier.
By training young people and helping them introduce new signage orders into the market, Nirex contributes to economic activity in several areas.
Local businesses receive the branding they need to become more visible. Young sales representatives earn commission. Designers and production teams receive work, while suppliers experience increased demand for materials and equipment.
Professional signage also helps small businesses attract customers and compete more effectively. A properly branded shop, office, vehicle or market stall can improve visibility, strengthen credibility and support sales.
By helping small businesses present themselves professionally, Nirex indirectly contributes to their growth and long-term sustainability.
Developing Responsible Future Leaders
Nirex believes that youth empowerment requires more than motivation. Young people need relevant knowledge, practical exposure, mentorship, reliable systems and genuine opportunities to earn.
The Nirex Academy and Sales Excellence Programme are therefore designed around learning through experience.
Participants are encouraged to recognise opportunities within their communities, communicate professionally, solve customer problems and take responsibility for their development.
The programme has already commenced, with training and practical activities underway. The next Nirex Sales Excellence Programme orientation is scheduled for 17 August 2026 at the Nirex premises in Klerksoord, Akasia, Pretoria.
Through these initiatives, Nirex Signs & Tech is demonstrating how a South African business can contribute to youth development while strengthening the local economy.
By sharing industry knowledge, providing access to production resources and creating performance-based earning opportunities, Nirex is helping young people move closer to meaningful participation in the economy.
The vision is clear: to equip South African youth with relevant skills, connect those skills to genuine opportunities and develop a new generation of skilled professionals, sales leaders and entrepreneurs who can contribute to the countryβs future.
