📍Cement mortar looses strength the longer it’s exposed to moist/sun, so I always suggest we mix 1 bag per brick layer at a given time, this ensures consistent strength through the entire plaster/building. ☎️082 797 8688 for NHBRC approved builder👌🏾👌🏾🛠️

Planning to build a double storey house as cheap, strong and aesthetically appealing as possible, on the beams and pillars, I researched thoroughly whether to use steel or concrete beams, on the argument of longevity/upkeep and maintenance, my research suggested that steel beams are faster to erect, but need constant painting since steel rusts blah blah blah, on the concrete part, they said concrete generally gets stronger with time, I was mind blown about this and I keep observing my surroundings in preparation for the double storey project.

Today we’re extending a house over 30 years old, and Tjo! The concrete nails couldn’t go through the plaster, betigobeka letipikiri and Tjo! I was astonished!!! Then I remembered what they said about concrete getting stronger with time… we have to chip of the plaster with a 4 pound hammer to reach the clay brick, only then did the nail pe*****te, it’s not only this section of the house, the entire plaster around the house icinile, rock hard😩😩

Initially; I advised that we use steel beams and pillars due to them costing less and are faster to build, but after finding it difficult to pe*****te this plaster will a concrete nail, I’m now considering concrete beams so they get stronger with time.🤔

📍NBHRC recommends we install brick force every 3rd course in the mortar bed (ludzaka), this is to hold the bricks together, prevent cracks etc etc… when we have a loop or 50mm pipe in the bricks as seen here, I always suggest we put brick force spanning 1m in every course, 500mm to each side, this is to ensure every course is bonded together throughout the pipe and no cracks can form later where there’s a pipe, be it through expansion or settlement. ☎️082 797 8688 for all your building and plaster needs🛠️
