Suspect Linked to Truck Hijackings and Armed Robberies Arrested in Ennerdale:

An intelligence-driven operation in Ennerdale, south of Johannesburg, has resulted in the arrest of a suspect believed to be involved in a range of serious crimes, including truck hijackings, armed robberies and ATM bombings across Gauteng and surrounding provinces.

The operation was conducted by SAPS Crime Intelligence Head Office MDOC, SAPS Gauteng Tactical Response Team (TRT), Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, CAP Specialised Operations and Tracker Connect.

Acting on information regarding a suspect allegedly posing as a South African Police Service member while carrying out criminal activities, law enforcement officers identified and raided a residential property in Ennerdale.

During the operation, the suspect was arrested.

A search of the premises led to the recovery of numerous items believed to have been used in the commission of crimes. These included three unlicensed fi****ms and ammunition, one of which was found to be linked to a truck hijacking case registered in Potchefstroom in October 2024.

Officers also recovered SAPS uniforms, insignia and official police dockets, as well as a Gauteng Traffic Police uniform, blue lights and a siren system.

The discovery of these items suggests the suspect may have been impersonating law enforcement officials to facilitate criminal activities and deceive victims.

Additional items seized included a military-grade signal-jamming device, false registration plates, cellphones and gloves.

Signal-jamming devices are commonly used by organised criminal groups to disrupt vehicle tracking systems during hijackings and robberies.

Further arrests have not been ruled out as the investigation progresses.
